https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/products/motorcycles/supersport/yzf-r6.aspx

From the website itself.

Having a laugh Laughing Laughing

First they ruin its looks (imo, sorry to people who like it), then they make it cost almost as much as a litre bike!?

I'd understand if it was an R7.5, or even if it had a cool new engine with more power and less weight but all they've done is slap on some electronics and slightly better forks and brakes.

To put it into perspective I got my brand new 0 miles 2016 R6 for £8k. (Ok I got a deal, but these would otherwise go for £9.7k, compared to 11k).

I get it, they had to cover the cost of slapping on the fancy electronics, upgraded fork and brakes... But.. Look at the prices of the competition.

If the R6 would've cost this much when I was buying, I would have probably have gone for the Daytona 675R in all honesty just because of the brembos, ohlins, and stock Quickshifter. Also even though I'm not a massive fan of the Daytona's looks, it looks better than the 2017. It was something I was considering when buying my R6 anyway purely because of the shiny components it comes with.

Welp. I'm going to go slap on a quickshifter & autoblipper for £750 and enjoy the rest of the £2249 left over from not buying the 2017 model. Laughing Laughing

All new bikes are going that way, wont be long before you can't get a sub £10k one..

Manufacturers appear to have decided rather than encourage new riders and get long term customers they'll just up all the prices and milk the 40 somethings dry.

Keeps 2nd hand rices buoyant though...

Depending on how fairly they convert $-£ the GSXR1000 may only cost £12200 and the R model £13800.

Makes the R6 price look stupid.

Given the way sportsbike tales have been tanking, presumably they've decided to maximise profit rather than sales.

Free trade with the USA, we can just buy cheap Harley "Sportsters" instead.

Same thing, right?

What's your point?

Between Jan 2016 and Jan 2017, the Pound has depreciated 17% against the Japanese Yen.

The RRP of the new R6 has jumped 13.4% against the old one. I'd say that £11k isn't such a bad deal, considering the exchange rate, and considering that the R&D investment needs to be recuperated, and considering the added 'features'.

At £11k, I would also choose a 675R, but since there is no 2017 675R, again, what's your point?.

You did get a great deal on the 2016 - you seem to be happy and so you should be. Good decision not to wait Thumbs Up

£1.3k at that price for the first proper update in a significant time doesn't seem too bad to me.

In the end, there's not many savings on these over a litre bike that justifies significantly lower prices.

I actually quite like that, I wasn't a fan of the new R1 styling when it came out but I saw it in person and it was quite nice. Looks a bit violent. Don't like the exhaust though.

I think I will wait for the second hand market to take off a little and I might take a punt on one to replace the gixer in the next few years.
