Hi all,

Well I decided to go with the long term desire of owning a street triple (Yes I know the new one is coming out soon) I think I got a pretty reasonable deal on it so I am happy.

Having had my KTM stolen from a workshop last year I am keen to try and do as much as I can to deter/avoid the same happening again. I have arranged to have bikeTrac fitted to it. What else do you guys suggest - there is so much choice - I have an Oxford disk lock I always fitted when parking up the KTM. I guess I am now thinking about securing my garage - sadly its about 25 meters around the corner from the house so its not ideal.

I know that as a new biker I am going to get stung for jumping on a 675CC bike, and the fact that the last one was stolen will not help - I am 34, no convictions etc but been riding less than a year - quotes around the £800 mark (this was through a comparison sight that did not seem to take into account a tracking device) - do they sound right - anyone got any suggestions on companies to try?

Cheers

800? Wow, I'm thinking of a triple or a sprint st, I'll have to check out the quotes first.

My bandit 600 costs just shy of 120 a year, kept outside no sercurity 2 years no claims.

Well ok its third party only too btw I'm older then you, I'm 41. A bonus of hitting 40, premiums drop Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Before you go all out with sercurity on the quotes. Consider, I have a 2 mt 19mm Almax chain, chained to the steel bumber of a bus.. At home. If I declared this chain, then I'd have to carry it and always lock it up.. Pita, but if you declare you are using sercurity they expect you to use it 100% of the time. "I was only gonna in to pay for fuel.. " tough mate, no security after you declared you chained it, no claim.

I'd love a mt9 or a street triple but tbf insurance is prohibitive, so my next bike will be older. A bit like PlayStation games I might as well wait a while and get cheaper.

Nice choice of bike Thumbs Up enjoy

Cheers guys.
I guess I'm getting stung a bit because I only passed test in July, I've had a claim all ready, and I have got a 'big' bike now.
Guess it's a case of suck it and it will eventually go down!!!
Good heads up on declaring the security devices... thanks.
I'm hoping that when I speak to them the Tracker will bring it down a bit!!

A tracker isn't going to stop your bike being stolen.

Get yourself an Almax or Pragmasis chain, fit a ground anchor in your garage and fit a garage defender.

^^100% this. Those chains are about the only things genuinely very difficult to cut. Don't skimp on the padlock either. Squire SS65C.

Almax chain and Squire lock here. All through a Y ground anchor.

Hasn't been touched since it last went walkabout.

Alarms, alarmed disk lock, Pragmasis all the usual shit. I go on the basis that if they want it they'll have it no matter what but I'll make them bloody work for it!

I live in a small rural village in Buttfuck Nowhere and my elderly neighbours are all briefed that if they hear an angle grinder at silly-o-clock in the night then call the old bill. Neighbour is a police sargent and a biker fwend (aww biker fwend) so he'd be up like a pitbull too.

In short, you can't make it impossible to steal but you should be aiming to make it a right arseache of a job so they bugger off and nick something else easier. Oh and having a shit heap for a second bike means they're less likely to finger Bully's Special Prize.

I've smashed two disc locks accidently, so I don't have a lot of faith in them to secure a bike on their own.

Mine is parked on the street, with a little red flashing light on the dash, disc lock of a model that I have not managed to smash and a big ass mammoth chain.

However it probably helps more that not GPZs are not massively desirable.

None of the security apart from the immobiliser are declared to the insurance; it didn't make a lot of difference to my quote.

Endurance Almax carrying could be an Olympic sport.

Declaring security on insurance policy rarely makes a difference to the bottom line. At least in my experience it's been minimal, about a tenner if that.

Also I've heard via friends that should the worst happen and your bike does get nicked, insurance will ask for all the keys/codes/paperwork to the security devices you have declared. If for what ever reason you're unable to provide those, perhaps you've changed brand of chain and forgot to mention it, then this can be grounds for voiding the policy.

Other than any factory fitted security I never declare any security despite stating the bike is left on the road. For me it's too much of a risk to not get a payout just because I had an Abus lock on instead of the declared Oxford.
