Just got back now and its so smooth and fast, no more being overtaken by cars Smile

Its hard to stay under 30mph and im a little choppy on the throttle at the minute, braking wise im not sure how much i can use either. My biggest worry is the weight of the bike, i dont want to drop it on slow corners. It seems like when im going round a corner the bike doesnt want to lean or isnt turning. On my 125 it feels like im leaning but on this it just feels like the bars are turning.

Anyway im so happy ive got this bike and a little scared Smile

Any tips on anything im worried about would be appreciated, thanks.

Is this the Fazer you mentioned in another post recently?

Just take it easy and your confidence will soon build. Look where you want to go and the bike will follow.

First big bike does take some getting used to, just take your time.
As to throttle control, Fazers are all mid range and top end, while you're getting the hang of it keep the revs below 4000 and it'll be a lot tamer.

Brakes are really good, progressive and powerful without any nasty snatching, again it's just a case of taking it easy ang getting a feel for them.

Don't be a complete knob-end and drop it https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=317963 Embarassed

Nice, almost identical to my blue 2003 Fazer!

What did you pay in the end (if you don't mind me asking)? I paid £1850 for a pristine one with 13k on it, about 4.5 years ago.

As for leaning into corners, it should flip side to side easily. It might just be a bit different to your old 125, so will take some getting used to. Though it might be worth double checking the tyres: First if they have correct pressure 2.25-2.4 on front. 2.9 on back. Check the front is a 110/70, it's not uncommon for some to put a 120 on it as there's more choice then. Also check their age, wear, if they're squared off at all.

As for 4000 revs into bends - bah! That's barely ticking over! Little B-roads are best tackled in 2nd gear with your rev counter at 6000-9000 odd. Maybe 3rd gear for bigger, wider, sweeping A-roads. Keep the revs smooth and in the mid range as you head round the bends, nowt worse than bogging down the engine half way round. As you lean over you need a little onward acceleration to counter you riding on the edge of the tyre with a narrower circumference.

But yeah, those blue spot calipers on the front have got a lot of stopping power, so do treat them with respect. If you snatch a handful, you will lock the front.

I'm not suggesting that 4000rpm is ideal, just to keep rpms low while OP gets used the sheer power of a big bike throttle.

Fair enough, whilst getting used to. But after a couple of months, the OP should definitely re-evaluate their riding, to ensure they aren't making the common newbie mistake of riding in too high a gear, bogging down in bends and in turn fluffing things up.

Definitely check the tyre pressures and that they're not squared off.

However, it may just be a case of getting used to it. If I chuck my 250 around for a few days then switch to the GS, I'll occasionally have a Moment where I run wide until I reset my head and give it more positive input.

There's nothing inherently hooky about Fazers, the one I tried went, stopped and handled beautifully. I'd have had it if it wasn't much faster than what I was looking for in a commuter.

Thanks for all the replies. I paid just under 1300quid for this. It feels great to ride I'm just nervous on tight corners because it feels like it doesn't want to turn. I love the way I can just accelerate past anyone now though:)
