Customer came in with a Echo 50cc four stroke engine not running right under load .

Symptom not taking full throttle like it had a electronic rev limiter fitted it would clear itself when the rear brake lever was applied putting the rear brake light on. This would allow the engine to run smoothly and at full revs

After checking through the wiring loom and the ignition circuit all looked OK. So came to the conclusion it could be a bad earth to the engine which looks like it comes from the frame to the engine casings . Tried a jump lead from the battery negative to one of the rocker cover bolts started the moped ran it just on the centre stand gave it a burst of full throttle engine sounded much better and going to full revs with no misfiring. So with the fault diagnosed as a bad earth to the engine a earth lead was made up to go from the battery to one of the rocker cover bolts . With the seat refitted it was road tested engine ran great and the moped pulled well.

Possible cause of the bad earth to the engine?.Paint on the frame at the mounting points and corrosion on the engine casings is a good guess.

Customer says it's running much better now even from when it was new. Hope this post helps anybody with a similar problem.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

There was barely enough grammar in it to be able to correct it Wink

To be fair, it may be the first Workshop moped cool story to actually conclude with a successful fix.
