Hi again, whilst in the process of stripping my bike down to get the engine out to do the head gasket, i came across the Air Suction Valve, now being predominantly a car guy, this is all a bit new to me, but seems like a similar concept to a car EGR valve

And whilst stripping the bike, i was trying to get rid of any unnecessary clutter, so my question is can i get rid of the Air Suction Valve, any issues in doing so, and if i can is there anything special i need to take into consideration

Also, while i'm at it, i would like to remove the air box and fit an open filter, partly for ease and simplicity, but also an open filter can be bought for pretty much the same price as a replacement drop in filter

My bike has a P.A.I.R. valve which will be disconnected some time because of a slight fault .

Be carefull not to run on a weak mixture with freeflow air filter, air cooled engine as well.

Do you mind if i ask why (genuinely want to learn about bike etc) as having never owned an aircooled engine i'm not sure of its quirks just yet

Very new to Bikes, and not worked on a carbs since i passed my car test 20 odd years ago, and even then i didn't have much to do with them

I figured that the free flow filter will just replace the stock airbox and filter, would not replacing a blocked filter with a clean filter change the air flow anyway, like it would replacing an airbox with a free flow filter

I'm assuming i could just get the carb re-tuned after replacing the filter either way (new clean filter or free flow filter)

Probably advisable anyway as it is running a bit rough, what with it having a head gasket failure and all

A big open filter will have far more of an affect on a small carbed engine, than on a car engine 10X the size. It's a simple bike it doesn't have the sensors cars have to adjust the fuelling.

Keeping the stock airbox and filter will have you a lot of hassle. Even if you do get the bike set up right you'll gain bugger all.

Fair enough, i was just trying to simplify things, as the stock airbox to carb clip is jammed solid, so i'm going to have to carefully cut it off without damaging the airbox

My thinking was just fitting an open filter from an earlier CG 125 (that didn't have the airbox design), so in effect replacing the 2004 airbox with a 2003 open filter, so not an uprated filter as such

Something like this

That's not a standard filter, All Cg's had airboxes AFAIK.

Unless you're doing a cafe racer build like my for shits and giggles, I wouldn't fit an open filter for a CG, you won't gain anything but headaches and frustration.

A weak mixture can overheat the engine and cause damage, that`s why modern bikes are water cooled to handle weak mixtures for E.U. regulations emissions crap.
