So I have been looking around at prices and deals and different ways of doing my A2 along with bikes I would get if I passed. I have been riding for about 8 months now on my lil 125 Marauder, enjoying it but fancying something that's a bit bigger with a little more power.
Did you guys get hourly lessons or go for that intensive 2-5 day course?

P.S I'm 21

I did a CBT and fannied around on a 125 for a bit, then did ~1.5 days training followed by Mod 1 and then a couple of weeks later I did another 1.5 days training followed by Mod 2.

Wish I'd done it 30 years ago, would have been a fuckload cheaper/quicker/easier!!

Had a 125 scooter for 2 and a bit years. Got knocked off. Scooter totalled. Got payout. Thought no time like the present and did a 4 day DAS course for full A license (in my 30's). Passed the DAS course easy peasy (reckon I could have done it in 2 days personally but they weren't budging on my needing 4). Got new CBR650. Loving life.

I would get the whole license thing over and done with as quickly as you can. If you've been riding for all your grown up years you can do an A license test now can't you? You'll need a big boy bike, but a bike school shouldn't try to make you spend days with them if you say well I have been riding already and can demonstrate a good level of proficiency.

CBT then a Varadero 125 for 7 months and 8000 miles commuting in all weathers, which meant I only needed a 3 (half) day course to pass mod1 with zero faults and mod2 with 2 minors.

mod1 stuff day 1, mod 2 stuff and some more mod1 stuff day 2, 9am day 3 mod1, then couple of hours practice before the mod2 at 12pm the same day.

Bish bosh, job done! Very Happy

Bought a CB400 2 months later, which I've now done 20+k on, and bought a Tuono Factory 1000cc at the end of last summer.

I did a few days intensive training then tests at the end. I failed Mod 1 and Mod 2 so paid for a half days refresher plus bike hire before each retest.

I had done nearly a year riding on a 125 before that too. I think that intensive days seems to be the more common method for those of us that didn't go for the "screw it, I'm going to book it myself" option.

<Waves>

Heh. 1981. I'd been riding for a year or so and thought I might as well go and do my test, so went ahead and booked one (no training or anything like that needed of course).

On the day, I ride to the test centre on my CB100N; examiner walks out and stands on the corner of a junction, having told me to keep riding round the block until he waves me in again. Did that a couple of times, then he calls me in and says 'right, off you go again but in the next couple of laps I'm going to step out in front of you and wave my clipboard at you, and I want you to stop as if in an emergency. And I could be anywhere on your route" <gasp>.

So away I go, and shortly afterwards Johnny Examiner duly steps out. Except he's about 50 yards up the road, and when I come to a gentle stop he's still about 20 yards away. Oh well.

A few traffic signs to ID, and that was it: "I'm pleased to tell you that you've passed"

Went straight down to Carnell's and ordered myself a GPZ1100.

(might have been lying about that last bit)

Didn't need the full 5 days really, but it was a bit of a safety blanket

Did cbt, had 12 months on a 50 (which got nicked) then a Yamaha YB100. Two days training, full bike test on the third using the schools Kawasaki 100 as they (correctly I'd agree) said my bike was a bit rough for a test. Job done!

CBT for a year or so, passed theory and Mod 1, failed Mod 2, discouraged because I'm still convinced to this day that the examiner was wrong so continued on 125. Retook CBT, passed Mod 2 and now ride around like a pensioner who's not in a hurry for anything.

Bought a scooter, done CBT, few months later bought a 125.

Got a bargain Divvy 600, done 1 lesson, passed theory and mod 1, failed mod 2, passed a week or 2 later.

OK I took the scooter to work one day before actually having done my CBT, the L plate kept falling off the 125.... and I managed to get the 600 insured on my provisional so would go out riding with groups.... allegedly

Same as that, especially the emergency stop!
I went on a Suzuki GT125, passed and promptly got the 250LC out of the garage and started riding that, happy days! Mr. Green

Your money, go with whatever route you can afford and are comfortable with.

Intensive courses are great and all but if you fail Module 1 you've fucked your entire pot of monies down the drain. The end reward is the same so why not just wait it out and take it one step at a time? Personal preference and all.

I'd advise an entire 7-8 hour day out on the bike under instruction rather than hourly. Well, half days at the very least. I'd say after about 3-4 days you should be test ready, for both modules from scratch first time round.

Time on a tiddler is always wasted. Ger on yer bike.

What, no Tef??

CBT. 18 months on a tiddler. Booked 2 days training with test at end of each day. First 'day' the test was booked at lunchtime so only half day practice/tuition. 2nd day, test at 9, so only half hour practice. Then finished
Passed, so didn't care i only got a fraction of time is paid for
