I think it's one of those ultra-long game plays: Boris murmurs about decriminalising the penalties for non-payment of licences fees, Beeb comes back with Broadband levies. Public voice their disgust at the partisan nature of BBC reporting, Beeb come back with even more partisan reporting. It's almost as if someone at the top is intentionally steering the ship straight at the iceberg with the intention of forcing the government to go full-private rather than some half-measures and then they can get a nice bump in wages and a share deal while the minions all get made redundant.

Why shouldn't the BBC go full private where you need to pay a subscription to access their channels?

Would people pay almost £15 a month just to watch BBC TV only?

You couldn't police radio on a subscription only basis.

£15 no, Netflix is only £8.99 I think. Maybe they could get away with £9.99. Of course, the entire back catalogue would suddenly go from "free" to behind a paywall.

Be curious to see what sort of content the Beeb would produce once they have to make things people actually like Thinking

I wouldn't pay £6 for the standard 4 BBC channels. I could live without BBC radio as well as there are plenty of perfectly good commercial channels.

I used to listen to the World Service when I was at sea before we had the internet but that has basically become so PC/propaganda-ish it's unreal.

Even this Britbox annoys me. I know it's majoritavly owned by the commercial channels but BBC are involved and putting BBC programmes on there I regard as already paid for with the licence fee.

Wuuut, easter Sunday and no killings?

What better way to celebrate the superiority of your peaceful religion than by killing infidels on their holy day.

No killings because social distancing and lockdown meant ISIS had to lay off most of their suicide bombers. Crying or Very sad

It's not just suicide bombers finding themselves as a martyr without a cause, last month was the first March since 2002 that didn't have any shootings at American schools. Shocked

I'd be more than happy if they all opted to work at home to keep the Jihad effort going.

All we need now is...

"Judy Chapman, molested for a decade and suffering from Stockholm Syndrome" and we'd have the full set!

Not really a TDWI per se but there's no point having a new thread for it and it's clearly a snack-attack, so here goes.

Some papers have mentioned his 'minor' crime that he's been inside for previously. So I took to doing a bit of research.

So far what I've worked out is he was fined (yeah, just fined) for being in possession of a knife. Then after that:

https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/17855115.39-powerful-39-sainsbury-39-s-security-guard-quizzed-reading-brawl/

Tries to stab a security guard with a broken bottle after being caught lifting. Charged with AFFRAY! What Laughing Oh and two counts of offensive weapon, so you know - grand - surely that's now two offensive weapon charges on top of the knife fine and must mean some decent porridge? Nope, it gets better:

Quote:
A REFUGEE has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a judge who was sentencing him for previous offences.
Khairi Saadallah denied common assault of District Judge Sophie Toms at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The alleged incident happened at Reading Magistrates’ Court earlier this year, where the Libyan refugee was being sentenced for two previous convictions. Saadallah, of Reading who appeared in a black tracksuit, was remanded in custody.
He will go on trial at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 11.

Assaulted a judge, in court, after being sentenced and calling his sentence a racist conspiracy Laughing

That is a Cat.2 assault right there with a starting point of 6 years inside. The other offences may add to the 6.

Was due in court October 19 but I can't find any follow up. So, to be out on the street in June 2020 seems like a good ol' slap on the wrist was received.

Unreal.

Very unreal because the system doesn't take kindly to assault on judges. If people are allowed to assault judges, the very fabric of our civilisation is lost hence penalties are severe...
