I don't doubt social media is stiring up the sh1t, that's pretty well all it's good for but the fighting is actually happening., it's not a social media creation.

I don't understand why don't we use water cannon for this sort of thing. It's a normal tool of policing in Europe and from what I have seen breaks up riots pretty damn quick.

Well, I have a couple of ideas of how to deal with these riots. We dealt with such things in India before, and a couple of the methods used were:

Flogging. For the less severe cases of individual involvement in sectarian and religious violence.
Blowing from the cannon, for the more severe cases.
Send the army in where riots seem completely out of control. Live rounds of course, non-discriminatory fire.

Let's face it, these people have not moved on from those days, and we know they recognise the supremacy of overwhelming brute force.
