Hi everyone

So ive been searching for an nc30 for ages, ive looked at a few lately but it seems like a bike people try to cash in on. i viewed one last month but i turned up to find it was little more than a £3k priced box of bits Rolling Eyes

and then last week this '93 type 8 came up for sale...
* https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5787_zpspgfgiugb.jpg

it has the makings of a cracking bike. on the most part its in quite tidy condition, it just needs a lot of tlc... theres bodywork damage on the right side with several cracks and the nose cone is faded from red into brown. The wheels are badly corroded, brakes are binding thanks to rusty rotors, it has surface rust in other places, and like a barn find its filthy and has that green shit growing on it Laughing ...mechanically though its superb, its recently had all new plugs a new battery, and a new rect/reg.

overall im a happy boy Cool

Not seen many bad things being said about them tbh, apart from being unaccessable, and you have to be a midget to fit on one Thumbs Up

im not impressed how many problems photobucket has experienced if im honest, there always tends to be something wrong with it. I would switch over to flickr if i could work out how to link the photos Rolling Eyes

seems to be ok now, ive added a picture of the bike

Awesome. Despite when riding one having found it horrendously uncomfortable I still lust after an NC30. Shame the prices have gone silly.

Curiosity... how much did it cost you?

My best mate restored one last year. Good bike but he didn't really gel with it in the end. Got about 3k for it so made a bit of money on it. I rode it a couple or times, really liked it but I thought my GSXR steered better despite being made of dogshit and bus tickets.

somewhere between the two, a decent tidy up but the wheels and the bodywork are getting repainted Smile

I rode 65 miles on it sunday, and besides a bit of wrist ache i didn't find it too bad. The bars seem a long reach for a little bike though. I paid £1300 for it

I'm a lanky bastard they murder my hips.

Unless the photos are seriously flattering it that seems a good price. My local tyre fitter sold a rough non runner for a little bit more than that.

no its an honest picture, the guy i bought it from broke his wrist and couldnt ride it anymore, so its been sat in a garden shed for two years. he probably just wanted to get rid. I set aside £2600 for an nc so now ive got a bit of change to play with Very Happy

It must help being a bit of a short ass, im only 5'9" and dont seem to have any issues riding it, but it does feel compact even for me

Pulled the NC out of the garage for a closer inspection, its looking sorry for itself, but i should start work on it this week!

it has a nice orange nose cone full of cracks, that needs to be repaired. looks like that cracked mirror will have to go as well, and it needs all new bolts

Will have to do something about that seat as well....

yeah its been down the road, but its repairable

both wheels will need to be powder coated, the pitting on these is pretty bad... no doubt they should be black, the silencer also needs to go. its too big for a little bike and doesnt look great either

Initial picture looks average and I'd pay 1300 for it.

Last set of pics makes me cry and remember the reason no one buys 400s anymore.

If the manifolds on these are the same as they are on the 800 ..... good luck getting at the rears without skinning 3 knuckles and losing your sense of humour.

TLDR: What Paddy said.

Looks a good project! I love mine, theyre awesome bikes, and they look cool as.... Ive managed to get everything ive needed so far for mine, however as said you might need a 5 year old to do most of the work cause your hands dont fit down the gaps! Im 6ft 1 and ive never felt to uncomfortable on mine yet haha.

Are they genuine fairings? Think the wheels should be black on type 9's which is what yours is (if you look up the codes its a type 9, Number 8. No idea why they mixed them up like that), although i could be wrong. Well worth repairing if they are proper ones, they fit miles better and make the bike worth a fair bit more id say.

But yeah you'll enjoy it, keep the thread up dated! Very Happy

Cheers mate, yeah the fairings are all original, theyre in tidy condition too as it happens, its just the damage to the right side and fading on the front that lets it down (although nothing that cant be sorted) and im with you on the wheel colour, they have to be black i reckon

Yours looks tidy, someones clearly spent a few quid on that at some point. I think if you were 45 and 6'1 though it may cause you a few more aches and pains Wink

After seeing the Thundercat, I have no doubts. Truth be told, I just wouldn't have paid that for it, its a 400 rag around. I used one, loaned from shereen, it was fun and noisy, but dat cramp.

Come on, its not a rag around its a classic appreciating nc with less than 25k miles on the clock Wink

Prices are so subjective, and 2nd hand value is whatever your willing to pay, right? Smile ...i looked around and it seems like you cant get a good one for any less than £2500 anymore and some are fetching £3000 or more. So when one came up for less than £1500 i jumped at it, once ive finished i should have a real nice example for less than 2 grand

Glad you liked my T'cat, it really is a great bike Very Happy

Haha cheers mate, i give slightly more than yours for mine. I went to look at a few mint ones but they where out my price range and abit to nice to ride really.... Its just not very original but i can live with that....

People always come up with a list of bikes that are 'better' and cost less, but they just arnt as cool! haha

Assuming you've probably paid less than 2k for yours, i wouldve thought someone's lost money after whats been put into it. New bodykit, new disks, fork rebuild etc, that bike wouldnt have been cheap

Yours looks original enough though ey? Im glad it doesnt have one of those nasty tyga kits on it Wink

I looked into chinese bodykits because when i was looking at different bikes they were an option. Ive got nothing against them, It looks like they're made to far better quality than they used to be, and if you get a good kit the design looks close enough to the original that you would need to look hard to tell the difference. If you find 8/9 year old threads on here and the 400grey forum about vfr fairing kits, they're full of people complaining how shit the fit was. Im sure they dont slide together like oem but theyre probably not half bad these days. Ive noticed the cut out for the rear lights are never square though and that would annoy me, i would probably buy an oem H piece off ebay and paint it to the right colour

Did you get your nose cone to shut right in the end? Smile

Oh yeah for what i paid for it and what i want it for its spot on. The place i got it from had it as a trade in and they just wanted rid i think, they had an NC24 aswell. The fit isnt too bad, theyre abit brittle though if you get me? I think theyre very hit and miss from what ive read about the chinese kits, if youre lucky theyre great and if not you spend ages faffing about with them haha.

No im not a fan of the TYGA kits really, why buy a nearly 30 year old bike and try and make it look like a new one? the styling is one of the best things about them! Cant beat twin round headlights haha

Yeah ive got it alot better cheers, i got some sticky cable tie bases and put one inside on the nose cone and the side panel, then put a big twist tie between them. Keeps them together and theres still abit of flex in them.

snapping the chain and it munching the engine wasn't ideal though...
