Ive been getting some use out of it before i start taking it apart, and its such a fun bike, surprisingly comfortable too Very Happy

...i guess those chinese kits are made from thinner plastic and the paint is probably thinner too.
When i see a vfr with one of those tyga kits on them i just think its a waste of a classic bike, if they looked good thats one thing but they look shit. I mean, what makes people think they can improve on iconic honda styling? Rolling Eyes
That said, tyga do make some nice aftermarket parts for the nc30, like their cnc yokes, exhaust systems and carbon parts

I may have missed it in the original posts, but how much did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking?

This is one of the bikes on my 'to own' list. I love the VFR400.

Ive always wanted one, but begun to think i would never get my hands on one, so im now thrilled to own an nc30... The bike was £1300

I like your avatar btw, that game returns me to my childhood. The ps1 version that is. Also had it on the megadrive but you cant beat that early-mid 90s grunge/hard rock soundtrack Thumbs Up

The bikes on Road Rash remind me of the VFR. Part of the reason I want one, as that game is from my childhood, too.

I did like watching the cutscenes when i was a kid...
Yeah i guess Sports 400s and 2stroke sports bikes were at the height of their popularity back then. I dont think there was a vfr in it but i think i spot two fzr400's, an rgv250... and a ducati of some sort?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LnH5SH166fI

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DjxFocHFmTs

The bikes that are playable in game were all fictional werent they? I remember them being called names like 'rat' and 'sport' Laughing

some deconstruction has taken place... ive cleaned up the cockpit and all the controls, ive also treated and repainted the headlight/clock bracket. Not having the nose cone on has brought to my attention how tatty and rusty the fork yokes are, another job to add to the list once I have the forks off Smile
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5865_zpsv5en2fcm.jpg

first bit of powdercoating has been done
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5916_zpsnncqtfvj.jpg

ive done a bit of shopping this week... both the heat shield and clamps on the chainguard are considerably rusted, so id rather replace with some nice carbon parts
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5850_zps69kenze0.jpg

I hate those MPH conversion stickers, at night I couldn't tell how fast I was going Rolling Eyes so I bought one of those lockwood UK clock faces and set about fitting it earlier
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/clocks_zpsyekkgs6r.jpg

I bought a titanium gear linkage rod to replace the old one, looks much nicer and noticeably lighter too
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5852_zpstmigaxlf.jpg

gave the rear sets a good clean, they haven't polished up to a high shine or anything but I'm happy its an improvement on before
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5877_zpsk8jeunzz.jpg

i found this delkavic exhaust in the garage, it was initially bought for my Yamaha thundercat, but i replaced it with a micron. the vfr has a step down shim from 60something mm down to 50mm so it fits perfect. looks better on the vfr, and gives it a racier sound than the viper Cool
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5899_zpswvisgos1.jpg

maybe jumping the gun a bit here, but I have a mix of titanium and stainless bolts for when the bike is done

No Idea, maybe someone can find the thread. It was basically built from the ground up. Loads of NOS parts and everything was cleaned to with an inch of it's life It went through Several exhaust systems and Several fairings/paint jobs. It was one of the best projects I've seen.

It might look like I haven't done much at this point, besides change the exhaust and fit the powdercoated bits, but a fair amount of cleaning has been done. I also thought id save time and money by not having the rear subframe powdercoated, so Ive removed and treated the rust, then painted it in silver hammerite.

The carbs have also been stripped, cleaned and rebalenced and its had a new air filter. The bike runs fantasticly Very Happy
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5976_zps3vdqxar4.jpg

Yep! That piece is off broken completely Rolling Eyes it looks like its been repaired before but the fiberglass repair looks shit
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5975_zpsw8sxocal.jpg

Here we have some GPI radiators... I wasnt sure about buying these, reviews are hit and miss. But mine seem better quality than others ive seen online, so off to a good start

...Okay, so they werent quite a straight swap and the fit isnt as good as oem but overall they arent bad by any means
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5947_zpsxry5cp7p.jpg

Manky top rads
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5977_zpsywdqmclb.jpg

And the bottom. The old rad was so corroded that when i removed the bolts to dissasemble it, the mounts crumbled into dust...
The GPI one was a ball ache to fit compared to the top, one of the mounts wasnt too accurate so i had to remove a gromet and bolt if flush with spacers (not a great deal) annoyingly there was no threaded inserts supplied for the fan bracket, i assumed the oem ones were removable, but no Rolling Eyes I had to resort to using what nuts bolts and washers i could find in the garage
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/1994%20Honda%20VFR400%20NC30/IMG_5978_edited-1_zpsi9lk1ys7.jpg

Due to the slight ill fitting, the f*cking hoses dont fit and im gonna have to Buy more... Still, the rads look great Very Happy

Yes i kept the baffle, especially for that reason. When i had this can on the thundercat, it made a Lot of noise, but the vfr is much quieter

radiators and hoses connected up and working (bike is running around 10deg cooler now) carbon chainguard fitted and the bikes been jetwashed as clean as its gonna get. Gonna need a new rad overflow pipe as the original one split. Otherwise a complete success

next on the list is the wheels and forks Cool

Wow for a 93 bike I would say that frame looks like its in amazing condition...

Really nice work on cleaning it up and getting the new bits... Does the husky come with the bike? *pets the husky*

The benefit of an alloy frame i suppose, it cleaned up quite easilly. The rear subframe is steel and was fairly rusty in places, but all surface rust so it only took an hour to remove the rust, then treat and repaint. It wasnt really worth having it shot blasted and powdercoated.

Its not a whole husky, i just got a free head with the carbon parts Wink

all the fairing is now at the body shop, and predicted to take around six weeks, which gives me more than enough time to finish sorting the bike out underneath

this week shes undergone some surgery. i don't have access to a ramp, and I cant put the bike on stands without any yokes on it, so I just paid a garage to strip it for me...

the front disks; the (I'm guessing ceramic) coating has wore off the braking surface in places of the rh disk, making it prone to rust. that said I tried to tidy them up the best I can, seeing as they will be going back onto fresh wheels but I think I may give into the urge of buying new disks

I didnt want to spend more money on an un necessary fork rebuild so i decided to paint them myself to save time and dosh... sanded, prepped and primed:

not too happy with how these turned out but at least theyre an improvement on before

ive bought a BT092 for the rear, I'm sure people would tell me that two BT090s would be best but I wouldn't notice any difference in the handling and the 092 was £30 cheaper. it's having a matching tyre put on the front down at protyre

and the wheels have also been powdercoated...
