Speedfight 2 50cc Rev Limiter

I've heard that the CDI in my 2004 Speedfight 2 has a rev Limiter and was planning on replacing the CDI with a derestricted version. However I have an immobiliser and the new CDIs I've found online say they are for non immobilised bikes. I was wondering if it would make a difference if I connected this CDI instead as I don't mind if I no longer have an immobiliser.

If not my previous moped allowed me to disconnect a pink wire to derestrict the CDI and so would the same apply to a Speedfight or wouldn't it work?

Also I am of legal age to ride a derestricted moped which is why I'd like the added speed.

The 'restriction' is on your licence, and in law that defines what is a moped and what isn't, not in the mechanics of your moped.

IF you have licence entitlement to ride a motorbike.. ride a motorbike! Even the lowliest 125 has more oomph than a dicked with ped, and likely does it with a damn site less hassle.

the standard Peugeot non immobilised cdi won't fit, what you need is a race cdi

the standard 50 was rev limited to 7500rpm, this will lift the limit, you'll have no immobiliser and the big end will self destruct due to the extra strain

with no rev limter on it it will keep revving until it kersplodes


and then will be a spears or repair bike

was good runner before only needs a few little jobs to get it right like most of the other Peugeots you see advertised


and yes I know I wrote spears but that's how most of them are listed

I think the new Honda scooter also had something in its ECU to make it stop at about 28mph too (cut fuel maybe?), so even if other things like gearing were changed then you'd still have the "limit" in place.

It seems an interesting way of doing it at least.

Mike is right,

It still amazes me how much money people WASTE on getting more power out of 49cc engines. The only thing they achieve is way shorter service intervals, worse MPG and more money spent in the long run.
