>was travelling down the A11 from Norwich to London when another HGV began to overtake him in the outside lane.

some 5 miles back.

>'If the other truck driver had got past me, if I was in front, I would have flashed him in.

in another 5 miles...

>'Is your life not worth waiting just five seconds for one of us to get out of the way?'

When have lorries ever completed an overtake in 5 seconds?!

>Despite both vehicles going at around 60mph...

HGV speed limit on dual carriageway IS 60mph - so why the overtake? Either one was speeding, or one was a couple of mph slower. Either way, the pair probably had a huge tail back behind them from them long drawn out overtake!

>reckless biker put the lives of the two lorry drivers at risk,

as though the biker could have endangered the drivers in their huge cages of steel.

>Mr Thompson only heard the motorbike as it sped past him and had not seen it approaching due to the height of his wing mirrors.

Seriously bad obs. Mirrors irresponsibly not set correctly to see anything below 6' high.

>On the video, it is literally a second or two and he's gone.

Suitably low TED (time exposed to danger).

>Mr Thompson has been a lorry driver for the same company for 13 years, however it was in the armed forces that he first learned how to drive trucks.

Nowt against those in forces, but is it really relevant? May as well tell us one lorry driver was a Virgo and preferred prawn cocktails crisps best...

Meh, why are we even giving this rag any attention?!

There is point to note here though.
Lets be generous and assume the bike was doing 80. He would be gaining on the lorries at minimum 34mph.
Lets assume a lorry driver checks his wing mirrors either just before changing lane or perhaps once every couple of minutes.
Motorways aren't straight. His focus would be on overtaking vehicle.
It's highly probably that a lot of lorries would NOT be aware of a bike behind them.
Worth remembering when you nip through a gap between two of them.
Also remember you are in a blind spot once beside the lorry.

I'm not saying it's a no no doing this. Just be aware that lorries you are putting yourself between are likely to not know you are there if gaining on them quickly.

1) This is the A11, it is not and I repeat not a bloody motorway, it is a dual carriageway, you get every sort of idiot on it from farmers towing trailers with no working lights on to damn fool Rossi wannabees.

2) The bike did not have to get through much between the two trucks as the one overtaking did not have a trailer on it! You can see that clearly in the video!
https://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a449/mikecarter1969/notrailer_zpsfiql4zpm.jpg

3) If numb nuts comes off he will make a very temporary speed bump for the trucks, his bike will suffer modifications due to being impressed into the tarmac and traffic will be held up for about 7 hours as they scrape him up! The truckers will not suffer physical injury!

Never let facts get in the way of a good story eh?

I personally wouldn't have gone in between two lorrys like that so easy to get killed. Are people in that much of a rush?

I was literally about to write the same thing.
The tractor unit on the right would have been no longer than a big van.

So we're all in agreement here that the real problem is the two lorries blocking the dual carriageway for no good reason?

That, pretty much.

Mr If-I-Can-Stop-Them-I'll-Stop-Them ass-u-med that the bike approached at that speed, committed to the move. It's just as likely that it was sitting behind them for minutes while they updated their Facebooks, then blasted through in eleventeen nanoseconds when they finally weaved apart.

Anyway, I'd like to see the next part of the video, where the trailerless rig pulled into lane 1 rather than sitting in lane 2 to perform another extended grind past the next lorry in line.

I generally wouldn't do what he did. That said, the danger is fairly minimal surely. Unless one lorry side-swipes the other, as long as you're aware of overhanging items like mirrors or indicators / flapping tarp etc The risk is minimal.
The trucks are big enough that, unlike cars, they can't swerve within their own lanes as much because there is no room.

The element of surprise could cause an issue, there might have been something infront of either truck changing lane very close to them, one could have a blowout. Something really unlucky basically.

But in reality, not as bad as the mail comments would indicate.

Don't know what the problem is, clearly there's not enough room for an overtake on the outside so straight down the middle it is.

anyone else see the Rainpal comment? >.<

You have to wonder if the motorcyclist mother knows he does those types of things. It's a well known fact that motorcycle helmets restrict the riders view due to the the build up on dirt on their visor and it's even worse in the rain. They also suffer from internal fogging. The biker would not have been riding like this if he could have clearly seen the road ahead.

edit: yes you all did whoops

Well it wasn't that bad if he was simply shaking, if he was literally shaking then I'd have more sympathy. It is 2017 after all.
