Hi there I want to gain confidence and practice on a decent 50cc geared bike before doing my cbt on the road. I passed my driving test years ago but have never rode a motorbike before. I did first part of cbt but felt too vulnerable to go out on road next day. I don't want to give up because of nerves so any recommendations on a 50cc would be much appreciated. Thanks.

If you mean buying a 50cc to practice, don't. If you didn't feel confident with an instructor behind you, how is going out on your own going to be any better? Add to that that a 50cc will have grannies on their electric shopping carts racing you off the lights and you have a recipe for disaster.

If it is just more time you need can you approach the motorbike school about getting some 1:1 time or doing another first day of the CBT? Could you do the CBT on an auto and then spend a bit of time on a 125 to get your road confidence up? What was it that made you feel like you couldn't do day 2?

Thumbs Up hi,

If you are over 17.. Get a 125, 50cc are just a nightmare on today's roads.

If unsure... See above, any bike will only go as fast as you ask them to go.. Unless a 50cc then.. No go

The ybr 125 is a great learner, the CG125, don't get anything sporty.

The Suzuki VanVan 125 is a awesome bike if you are uninterested in getting your knee down.

Idk about geting a 50cc, I wouldn't recommend it at all. I'd recommend getting DAS and a cb500 for starters, but then I did 12 months on a 125cc. Anyway you are fully right to be intimidated! Thumbs Up todays roads are shit scary, especially first time out of the gates on cbt! It's cool, but yep scary. But in all honesty i feel a lot safer on the 600 then my 125.. I would hate to take a 50cc .

There was a thread on here a couple of months back, a learner was struggling with a crusier/roads/nerves, some good annotates and advice Thumbs Up

Good luck, we all get scared Karma

Reading between the lines OP, like me was given a moped entitlement on getting his car licence, hence wanting a moped to practice on.

Please don't go down that route. I'll make your confidence worse. Persevere with the CBT then get a YBR125, they're about as easy going as you can get.
