can i get it taxed with these or must i await the proper V5?

and i am screwed if i dont get the ins docs tomorrow as they will automatically send me a fine for no tax...

If you've got the new owner slip, insurance and MOT you should be able to tax it without a problem.

You just need to fill in the form, number I cannot remember, at your Post Office.

I'm told that there is a grace period between the tax expiring and them issuing you the £80 fine, don't quote me on that one though.

According to the DVLA site you need to fill out other forms. Doh!

DVLA wrote:
The law requires the keeper to hand over the V5, V5C, V5/2 or V5C/2 when selling a vehicle.

If you have just acquired the vehicle and neither of the Documents/Certificates are available, you cannot license your vehicle at any Post Office® branch using a V10 accompanied by a V62. You must first obtain a V5C using form V62 (fee application).

If you are the current registered keeper of the vehicle you may be able to license it at any DVLA Local Office. You should complete form V62 (fee application) as well as form V10 or V85. If you have changed your name and/or address you will need to provide proof of identity with your application. Acceptable evidence is a current driving licence, original bank/building society statement, or a recent utility bill. If your name has changed acceptable evidence is a marriage certificate, decree nisi/absolute or deed poll.
