40 a week commuting in winter, probably closer to 100 a week in summer as I'd ride evenings and weekends.

Not many. Don't know.

I green lane about once every 2 weeks, and haven't really gone more than 20 miles from my house on a bike for any other reasons.

Maybe 25 miles a week as a mean average.

Or an average of 4 hours a week?

I should probably shut the fuck up here with my mileage average, but I'm a bit puzzled by those that are doing 4mile commutes a day on bikes like a ZX7R though?

I know some of you only like big, heavy or powerful bikes, or only ever ride sports bikes because they handle or brake better, but if I was going to work a couple of miles or so each way, I'd be happy on a 100cc scooter unless it's all motorway or similar?

The furthest I've ever ridden a bike on a commute was 15miles each way, and I used to do 8miles each way twice a week on a mountain bike when I worked part time evening jobs too.

The furthest I've commuted to and from site in works vehicles in a day is probably about 170miles round trip. I'd be expecting to be put up in digs to travel any further personally.

I split my commute between bike and car depending on weather and how late I drag my lazy arse out of bed. Commute is 104 miles round trip.

Probably works out around 150miles/wk during winter (approx. 1.5days commuting average) and maybe 400 in summer (3 days commuting + 100ish for fun.)

Not as much as I though I would ride when I bought the bike, but enough that I reckon it was worth the spend!

60 miles...if by week you mean from October till now. and that's both bikes combined Laughing

company car which does 1000 miles a week so after a day of driving dull roads in a dull car the last thing I want to do is ride the same dull roads in the dark getting cold. I also have my kids all but 1 weekend a month, which is guaranteed to rain.

sometimes I wonder why I have bikes and don't just sell up and buy the maserati I've wanted for years Sad

been a bad year got a new bike last feb and thus far only done 7k miles or so total, year before i did 30k just on long weekend trips .
Bike paid off next feb but this year I have the unspoken word that a euro 2week trip is allowed and already 6 3-4 nighters planned around uk and ireland. expect a good 10k just on those trips.

I would do more but until the other week I was only working for myself and needed tools etc so had to use the car

I'm now working properly in the mornings and still doing odd jobs for people in the afternoon so still need to take tools most days but the one day I didn't need to I took the scooter hence four miles

the 100 or so is on the bike I would have gone further but I don't get as much spare time as I like

but running a 700cc bike 4 miles a day would and does seem daft

It could be a case of not wanting more than one bike, so that bike needs to do everything, including a short commute.
Probably the same reason you see 300~400 bhp cars doing the school run.

This wouldn't be between Harthill and Blackburn in West Lothian would it? I see a guy fitting this description all the time, fag in mouth all the while.

I do around 200 per week commuting, plus whatever I can at the weekends, which ain't much til the better weather comes in.

No commuting on the bike as mine are just toys and only come out in the sunshine (almost)
The only time I take mine to work is if the car has broken down.

So winter commuting average mileage = .0000000001 Thumbs Up
Winter ride out and clearing the cob-webs from my bike and head,??? hmmm? 10 miles a week possibly?
Summertime? whenever I feel like it and trips away = I have no idea!

I don't measure mine on a weekly basis as I don't have to commute. Bugger all in winter, although on those odd nicer days, I'll cover anything between 60 and 150 miles for a ride out somewhere. I average anywhere between 20-30k miles in a year though, all pleasure riding. Some days as much as 500 miles in a day, 60 at least (to the cafe and home again). I'll take any opportunity to get out on a bike in good weather.

Fair points made, it's just I don't like the thought of operating a big powerful engine for such short lengths of time and not getting the oil hot.

I get the 'only got space for one bike' or ' only ride sports bikes cos the rest suck', but if I had to do 4miles a day on a bike I'd personally be wanting a little air cooled single that would at least have to work a bit more and stand a chance of warming up too.

Oh and as someone said about doing the school run in 300-400bhp cars, I once saw a woman dropping her kids off at school in a mid 90's Mitsubishi Lancer Evo something or other. It had obviously been modified and was loud, stank of fuel like my car and popped and banged as it decelerated too.

I guess it was the hubby's project car, that the wife just had to use to drop the kids off in. It didn't look particularly well suited to doing the school run anyway.
