Went to wash my bike last night (for its annual wash).

Turned the tap on for the hose an nowt happened....?

The tap is one of them that cuts into one of the pipes in the kitchen. water is still working through the main tap in the kitchen.

I'm a bit stumped on how i cant be working, its not the most technical thing in the world.

checked the internal tap, this was swtich on

Strange...
My first step would be loosening the external tap to see if there was pressure behind it, ie. has the tap somehow got itself blocked / broken. If so, new tap time. If not, continued head scratching and tracing back down the pipe (could be the non-return valve?).

Probably the tap has failed. Might be broken from freezing up in the cold weather.

Unscrew it see if water comes gushing out Very Happy

It was weird, i disconnected the hose connector off it an got a bit of a dribble that was it.

I was half expecting the comedy moment as i look into the tap for water to gush at my eye balls but nothing Crying or Very sad

the outside tap the OP mentions typically has a tap of its own for local isolation .

Often there's a valve you can turn with a flat bladed screwdriver.
If it's a simple brass tap just swap the whole unit they're only about £8, I've seen them under £5.
It's hardly wrth messing about with washers as they tend to corrode internally and drip for ever more if opened.

Hopefully will be able to attack it tonight. i have a feeling when i originally fitted it (2 years ago) there was a diaphram looking thing inside the bit that holds the tap to the wall?

would that be the check valve?

how do you check a check valve?
