Just a quick one......

The Kodi box being sold by a well known member on here. I want one but have a question. The Virgin box I want to get rid of at home gets CBS reality. I like to watch Murder Detectives on reality +1 in bed at night.

Can I get this station on the Kodi box?

Thanks for any advice Laughing

"Kodi boxes" aren't just a one hit thing, in that i mean every "Kodi box" can be setup and tailored to do pretty much anything (within reason), also depends on what you are calling a "Kodi Box"

Kodi itself is actually a piece of software that can run on many devices (Amazon Fire Sticks, laptops, android devices, smart TV's to name but a few)

I have one i set up myself (following a step by step youtube tutorial) and then uploaded it only my already existing Fire TV stick, but mine is setup mainly to watch streaming videos/movies and TV box sets, mine is not setup to watch live TV as i already have a Virgin Tivo box for that, but as i pay the minimum subscription i don't get many movie channels or premium TV channels

Not sure if that has helped or not, but i suspect the best person to answer this is the seller of said Kodi Box

But it may be that your favorite late night Murder show is available to view via the streaming boxsets

Also worth noting, most of the above is strickly withing the letter of the law, so do so at your own peril Wink

And that is not to say Kodi itself is illegal, but what most folk do with it is

I have said box from said seller.

All of the freeview channels are on it and work perfectly.

Copyrights of film cover distribution and duplication.

There is no breach of copyright by simply watching what someone else is supplying. The onus is on the person supplying the stream to do it legally, not the other way around.

This is the reason there has never been a single arrest, let alone court case against someone streaming a movie or tv show. No law is being broken.

And iOS devices apparently. Found a guide last night, not tried it yet but it utilises developer options, a bit like how you install plex etc. on a NowTV box.

Okay so now looking at booting out Virgin media and installing box. The thing is I now only need a good streaming broadband. Can I make savings here?

What is the best value fastest broadband out there? Is it easy to change suppliers?

Noobie here any help appreciated after being ripped off by ever increasing Virgin fees over many years for crap service (service always dropping out and yes have replaced router to no avail) tech service crap as well hence my box move.

1st off check the BT site and see what service's you can get.
Best you could hope for is Fibre broadband. But that is going to depend on your location. Many isp's will supply this.

So before you dump Virgin. Find out. You you may end up with only being able to get ADSL and slow speeds.

Then hit the likes of Quidco As many good deals to be had.

Quote:
BT
Enjoy unlimited fibre from just £29.49 per month with a free £100 Reward Card +upto £140 cash back.

Infinity + calls is £110.

So that is £353.88 for 12 months. Less £210 = £143.88 or £11.99 a month. Thumbs Up

Sorry to muscle in on this thread, but my father-in-law is looking for a Kodi box, (bear in mind that he's not the most technically savvy being out there, to put it kindly)... He sent me a link to someone selling a pre-loaded Now TV box with Kodi installed (and access to a remote Plex box with '30tb of movies' on it), I'd imagine that it's going to be slow as hell, but in terms of me being left alone (and not asked to provide continual 24/7 support for it), would something like that be easier to use compared to Creg Aaron's Kodi box?
It must have some sort of remote control option, does this sink Creg's option?

Camberley Fitz's box has a remote. Even my wife can use it. Once you've searched for one box set and a film through each of the routes, it's simples.

That's why you call them up and tell them you're leaving (to get a better price) Smile BT wanted £22p/m for fibre, got them down to £10 p/m, from their very best price of £15 or something Rolling Eyes

I thought Virgin were meant to be one of the better ISPs. BT Broadband was ok, their fibre has been pretty shit for me. Sky when they took over o2 had the slowest speeds I've ever had, it was 2-3 months of 0.2-0.3mb... so I promptly left (after they offered a years internet for a fiver Shocked).

Done a deal with Virgin. £30.25 / Month for 70mb. I could have done better probably but don't want the hassle.

Ordered box from everybody's friend Laughing

Thought my box had an issue, creg just spent 2 hours helping me fix it even though it was a problem with BT in the end.

11/10 customer support.

So time for an update.

I have so far watched:-
Boxing that was pay per view- £15 saved
9 films that are still cinema only - £94.50 saved
6 films I do not have on DVD- £60 ish saved.

It has paid for itself already, not to mention the many dinosaur documentaries that I have watched.

I put a version of kodi on my laptop before buying a cregbox.

It was laggy
Most of the links were broken

The box supplied by creg is a stand alone unit with a full querty keyboard remote, he has evidently spent a lot of time resarching and making a build that works very well.

Money well spent in my opinion.

I've had various experiences with Kodi. My phone doesn't like it at all (latest or previous ver.), Jarvis worked ok on my tablet but was glitchy. The Fire TV stick's good, although I've not tried the latest version (probably won't as I'm happy with it).

They've come out with a new TV stick, 30% faster (apparently) and with Alexa voice search thingy. If/when I upgrade my TV I'll go for the Fire box I think.

You can't talk sense to someone that sticks by their purchase as the best and blinkers themselves to sense.

Firesticks are shit and the people that bought them were idiots for being duped. For the same money you could have purchased a much faster box, with a full function remote and ethernet port. Buying a firestick is like seeing all your friends driving cars and deciding to join in by buying a pedal kart.
No kodi boxes dont crash all over the place, I cant even remember the last time mine did, probably back in Helix or Isengard. I have also sold bundles of them to people in the past and I've had 2 returns, both boxes had issues with the memory addressing, so yeah some can have or develop faults, nothing is perfect. The vast majority of boxes are running fine to this day, with no issues.

Anyone that buys a firestick for kodi these days, is a moron.
It's that simple.
