yeah they work fine,
bit of a pain in the arse with some bikes trying to get it mounted if the exhaust gets in the way.

Bike lifts like that are good on cruisers and crossers, where you tend to have a couple of flat frame rails under the engine for the lift to work on. No good on anything where the exhaust goes under the engine.

Looks like you need an abba stand.

Not used one myself but JTF are knocking out the same thing for £72 currently - if there is a branch near you.

Buy an ABBA stand, far better IMO.

I have one of those and as said it works fine where there are frame rails or whatever under the engine. Not so good as people say if the exhausts are underneath, although you can make supports out of timber / MDF / whatever to get round that.

I'm planning to fit a slab of blockboard with legs at the ends so that I can use it more like a conventional bike lift when necessary.

An advantage with the one I have is that it's easy to shuffle the whole lot sideways if (like me) you have only a small amount of space. A full sized lift takes up a lot of space and is more or less fixed in position.

All of these threads are because you have lost your keys?

Have you considered contacting honda, or a locksmith?

You should be able to get a cut key from Honda or simply buy a key blank and get a locksmith (a proper one) to come to you and cut one for the bike.

Far better solution than all the spastic ways you key trying to change the lock. As a plus you don't need to replace the seat/fuel cap lock.

Yes I have contacted Honda they say I need the original key then they will send the dealer a blank and they will get it cut to copy of the original.

Locksmith said 40 for two pairs if I get him the barrel. And 110 if he comes to me. I thought... hey you know what... 40 quid is fair and I get to spend some quality time with the machine.

I'm not saying this to be a twat but you don't have a clue what you are doing. You are talking about draining the oil to remove the forks. to get at the lock. Laughing

You can just remove the top yoke with the lock attached. It is only a handful of bolts you don't need a stand or anything.

David silvers will supply a Honda key cut from the code. Usually on your key (so record it in future) but sometimes also recorded in the bikes manual by the dealer and on the ignition barrell. Costs a lot less than £20 delivered.

IF you REALLY have to drop the forks ( i dont think you do, there must be a way around it) Then the cheapest way to do it would be a rear paddock stand and a halfords trolley jack with a bit of wood to spread the load on the frame/sump..

does bike have a centre stand? If so, only the jack and a few spanners is needed.

So you are looking at spending far more than you would save to remove the barrel Laughing

Never mind the fact once you get to it, it's not a easy unbolting job.....

If you fancy spending a bit of time on YouTube to learn how to pick a lock, give it a go to unlock the steering, most older bikes are fairly easy, a couple of paperclips to make a rake and a tensioner and you may be good to go.

You don't need a new stand and to disassemble the bike to get at the lock, if the steering lock is making it impossible, try picking it.

Typically, yopu can do it with a screwdriver and a pair of molegrips....

You mean putting it back together is hard?

Also sorry for my social ineptitude but is the joke that the time I'm spending to fix it is the high price or because I will "fuck it up" as many are saying?

Locksets are more often than not fitted using anti tamper bolts to stop theif from simply taking the lockset off...
So you have to find someway of getting them off......

The joke is you are prepared to spend more than getting a professional to fix something that is not a straight forward task.

Whit it's good you are prepared to give stuff ago and learn. There are times when it is far better to cough up and let someone do the work that knows what they are doing....
They will do this without taking anything apart..

As the result of a fuck up here is going to cost big £££

As a aside 3 threads abut the same task... Come on, use your brain Karma

TL:DR...

You are a spaz, pay the money.
