Deliveroo - anyone worked for them/know anyone that has?

So yeah, the questions pretty much in the title, has anyone worked for Deliveroo or have any other info' on the company?

They reckon you can earn up to £3,500 a month, which seems a tad optimistic seeing as the pay's £7/hr + £1 per drop + tips & fuel, just wondering what the real deal's.

Also any thoughts on self-employed courier/delivery work?

P.S. Inb4 spam, not advertising Deliver... whatever, just thinking about changing jobs.

Not sure where about OP is located but in London (particularly central London) they're rife. Little kids on bikes and any redneck with a scooter is eligible to do the job.

Problem is, and this is based from personal experience as well as speaking to others, that they're pretty unreliable. I'm not sure how the qualification process works when it comes to employing new staff but I've had a number of orders not show up which is very annoying. A friend has even been threatened with robbery of his property because he didn't give a tip!

Anyway, I avoid this service now. I can't see it lasting too long in London.

Sorry don't have an answer to OP's question but thought I'd give my opinion of the company/service anyway!

Food for thought..

During my student days a friend approached a bunch of restaurants in the local area to offer freelance delivery service. These restaurants didn't offer delivery as part of their normal service but there were always regular patrons who would request the odd meal to be sent over.

So these restaurants would call said friend when ever a job came up and he'd scoot along, pick up the order and deliver it. He was paid between £3 and £5 per job plus tips. Fuel was on him, but his 50cc didn't exactly guzzle much.

He got quite popular among the restaurants and If I remember correctly, he was making more on Friday and Saturday night than I was doing 20 hours at my local JD sports!

I've used them half a dozen times and the delivery has always been really quick and the driver well turned out and polite. Seems like a good service

I applied for them, got as far as an interview and thought "fuck this bollocks", things like having to pay £90 for them to fit a "special" deliveroo branded top box etc. and now my current bike is too nice to rag into the ground doing shitty delivery work.

Also this is Britain, not the US - nobody tips!

They seem to be the most dangerous of the assorted peds and bikes around London - really desperate to squeeze through any gap with all the spatial awareness of a minicab driver.

This would suggest to me that they're relying on getting paid per drop, and the money is poor. Delivering pizzas is probably preferable, but both jobs are shit.

Considering how dangerous the job is combined with high demand they need more disposable workers who are willing to kill themselves for £1 a drop.

I don't see how you can make any real profit in long run.

This is where I get curious - £7 per hour and £1 per drop sounds like quite good money. I assume that once you've signed and you're stuck, the small print says that you have to do x drops per hour before you start getting the additional £1 per drop.

They make no mention of PICK UP

Which given that they cover a vast range of companies can mean it's not as simple as your average pizza delivery.
So unlike a pizza where there maybe 3 deliveries in one drop, this is far more likely to be 1 pick up, 1 drop and then somewhere else to do the same...

Saw deliveroo bikes all over leeds tonight. Tracksuits and 125s are de rigeur. Failing to shoulder check and being inches from a messy death also common.

Cycle couriers and motorcycle couriers make fuck all, it's been that way for years. The people who do it in London can only make ends meet if they cram 6 people into a 2 bed flat. So I don't see how Deliveroo can defeat capitalism by paying a living wage.
