Hey guys! it's been a while since i posted anything.

I'll just dive into the deep end here, I have a 1974 - 1976 Honda CB200T, it was a Barn find that i received from a friend. Now the question in hand, i am still riding on my CBT, i'm 21, not going for my big bike test as all i need power wise is 125cc ( before anyone says anything, i have no intention in riding the Honda on the road and breaking the law ) I'm wanting to know what is the procedure legality wise of putting a smaller engine in a Bike? IE replacing the 200cc with a 125cc. if it's going to be long winded then i'll rebuild the bike and just sell it, but i love the size of the frame and the overall feel.

Bike information, everything is there, engine need's full rebuild though, no papers came with the bike, but all numbers are there for getting a v5, the bike is currently dissembled waiting for the summer month's.

Many Thanks

Jack Smile

Is your bike one of these?

https://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m184/KnobHardcastle/hondabikecb200.jpg

I remember those when they first came on the market. They were rideable on 'L' plates and were not that popular as the CB250G5 was not that more expensive. As such,no other engine of a smaller size would be retrofittable.I think that Jock Kerr sold a big bore kit that took it out to 240cc or similar, but no small-bore kit.

Edit. The cable operated front brake was rubbish Evil or Very Mad

It is yes.

Hmm like i said in the initial post, it can't go up in CC but what about fitting new engine mounts to accept a 125cc? what paper work is involved?

Maybe i'll just keep it as a sell project.

Because ready made 125's are small, and feel flimsy, not just Chinese ones, but branded as well. I like this Honda as it feels strong, like it could come out the other side of a tank battle haha

This is probably a question for... oh allah help me, Tef. Pale

First, stop being so bloody silly, and go and get yourself an A2 licence. The moment you ride a training school's 500, you'll realise why limiting yourself to 125 is daft.

Second, there are plenty of newish 125s around in that style. Look at the Lexmoto Valiant, Herald and Mutt 125s and the Sinnis Cafe and Trackstar. No need to go butchering a bike which might actually be worth something some day if it's properly restored but left as stock.

If you do really want to re-engine it then you're likely to be invited for an inspection at a DVSA site.

As to what will fit, I don't know, but I'd measure up the mounts and then see if you can find someone with a Chinese copybike and compare them. Plenty of them have engines that are copies of the CG125 or CB125 engines which appear on the face of it to have similar proportions to the 200.

CD125 engine could probably be persuaded in. As to finding one, good luck.

If it`s one of those, just make it good and sell it on.
Why spoil a good little bike?

Hey guys, cheers for all the good information.

But i want to clear some things up first.

1: I'm not being silly in not getting my A2 licence, yes i can see why i should get it, but i really don't have any interest in bigger bikes, i have tried quite a few on private property, and i have ridden the test bikes at my local CBT center to get a feel for the bikes, i am just happy riding a 125cc as it is all i need in a bike, and it makes life more of a adventure because i have to plan things around having the limitations i have on a 125cc and i like that Smile

2: the bike is already spoiled as it is a barn find, the parts of the bike are the Frame, wheels, and Wheel Guards. It would cost more Money, time, and Labor to buy all the parts i needed to fix it to a point were i would be happy selling it to another person, but if i find a doner bike with a good 125cc engine, the time and labor for that wouldn't be that much ( FYI - I have done this before just not for downgrading a bigger bike, and not for something that has to be road worthy as a end result ) and as long as it pass's the necessary test's to make it road worthy i am happy with that.

3: I am want to apologize now if any of what i have just said has come across as angry, impolite, dickish, rude, or any of the other phrases that correspond with someone with i'll temper haha I have had around four hours sleep in the last 3 days , so i hope will you will understand Smile

4: What would the procedure be for DVSA Test? i don't know if it's a test i'm just assuming, Does the Procedure change if Welds to the frame are in play with the build? as that's the only way i can think of safely mounting a new engine, i know some of my acquaintances i have met over the last couple o years have used Brackets incorporating the existing engine mounts, but that just seems dodgy to me like.

Anyway guys hope what i have said hasn't come across to bad? if it has...Drink a beer, if it hasn't...Drink a beer Very Happy

Many Thanks

Jack

P.S

I would like to mention again that the engine needs a full rebuild, and the owner who had the bike for a week before giving it to me tried to force the kick start and has ruined that part of the engine.

If you have no interest in bikes and are not attached to this one, probably better to stick it on eBay as a project and then pick up something you actually want with the money.

Sounds like the engine is seized - that is why it did not turn when kicked. Who knows how much it would take to fix but it won't be cheap.

Fitting a different engine can be done but is a lot more work than you would imagine. Bolting it in is easy but you have to bolt it in so the drive is properly aligned (so likely to need to be able to make plates and spacers accurately and maybe modify the frame) and so the exhaust routes with no obstructions and brackets to mount it (may need to chop and weld it, bend some pipe etc. then have it all rechromed), - then make the ignition side of it work and all the electrics. All in all, much more than a few weekends work IMHO and really not worth investing the time and money in to get what would come out of it at the end.

My advice would be to remove the front end and lay the whole lot out on the pavement for a few days. Praying
