Hi,

I'm currently looking for a policy that offers third party cover or better for 6-12 months Europe wide (continual). I know most policies are 30-60 days and even then you likely have to give them a call before hand to ensure they activate the cover so to speak.

I spend a lot of time outside the UK with my bike so just wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

All input appreciated!

Well for anyone searching for the same thing, it looks like MCE is the only more 'affordable' option that advertises 183 days of continuous European cover. As far as I can tell that includes breakdown and the same level of cover you have normally - some places only offer third party in Europe. I've heard MCE can be shite though so...

Two places that offer more international insurance options include Alessie in the Netherlands and Tour Insure in Germany. Both offer cover starting at around €1k for the year third party, and €2k+ fully comp. They also offer temporary insurance options too.

Yeah, I saw some forums recommending them but the posts were back in 2008 odd. They now only cover 90 days.

Bennetts is 90 days and I can't remember the last time I had to inform an insurer I was going abroad.

More than 90 days each time?

Lol, I knew MCE had a bad rep. I'm caught between going with a decent insurer, or just making an effort to stay legal since they're all con artists anyway.

Check your policy. Most I think require you to let them know - at least all that I've seen. I'm not sure how they'd handle a claim if you didn't. In those circumstances you could just swear that you called and spoke to someone who okayed it.

Yeah, I don't really live in the UK that often. Bike is currently hibernating in Norway. I'll be riding it back for it's MOT in a couple of months and then heading on to Spain - though looking forward to detouring to Tuscany in particular - perhaps by way of the Dolomites.
