I've been having a few problems with the fuel system on my CRF250 bike recently.
Firstly I had no petrol coming out of the fuel tap. Yes, I did have petrol in the tank Smile Smile so I did a bit of proding with a wire in the fuel tap and now there is fuel coming out.

I've reconnected the pipe and fired the engine up, but there is petrol is pissing out of the overflow.

I've always thought that when there is an overflow problem that it is usually sticky float.
But I've never had a bike where fuel is pissing out of the overflow, but the bike is still overwise running fine. In this situation, is still likely to be sticky float?

Does the fuel tap play any part in stopping the petrol pissing out? I'm wondering whether in proding the fuel tap with the wire, I have somehow damaged it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The float valve should shut off the fuel flow once the bowl is full even with the fuel tap on. It's probably the valve sticking or worn. Thumbs Up

The fuel tap will not be the reason the carb is overflowing. The problem will be in the carb. If you prodded some dirt or whatever was jamming the fuel tap down the pipe it may well now be jamming the float valve open.
Clean it out, and the fuel tap too.

Is it a vacuum operated tap? Did you poke the wire in the wrong hole? Is fuel running down the vacuum pipe?

I don't think that it is a vacuum led, rather a gravity fed one.

The bike is a CRF230F (not a 250 as I stated in the OP).

This link should show pics of the tap -

Thanks.

If there's a pipe the fuel is coming out of (overflow pipe from the bottom of the carb) switch fuel off, wait for it to stop dripping, then carefully blow some air up the pipe.

I'd say use your mouth, but inevitably that's healthandsafetyable now.

I've moved stuck floats before like this. Also, give the carb a bit of a sharp knock sideways.

Yeah. Hit it with a hammer.

A tapping hammer mind, not a whacking hammer.

A wooden mallet or nylon faced deadblow is ideal.
