Evening all,

Ever since I sold the daytona last season I have not had a road bike and have been focusing on my offroad bikes, been playing with my xr400 in the dirt and gas gas trials even more so.

With the nights turning and the odd day being bright and beautiful it's got me thinking about the road again.. I do have the option to ride the Mrs sv650 which pretty much sits abandoned in the shed but il be honest it's an alright bike but it's not mine and feels cheap out on the road..

So I'm gonna look at getting a road bike again, my main uses will be going for jollies with my local mc group and hopefully some long distance stuff later this year.

Budget wise I could potentially spend upto 3k, I'm not gonna go over that as I'm getting married in may and we also have a ton of stuff to spend on the house so ideally I'd like to spend half that... however I know 1.5k doesn't get you much these days.. prices seem to have creeper right up.

2 bikes have caught my eye right now and wondered if anyone could give any opinipns on them;

First up is this;

Look at this on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172557674344

I'm told these are all round a pretty solid bike, I've sat on one and I like the riding position nice and sat in the bike.

Second is this;

Look at this on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172573084859

A little bit more pace than the VFR I'm guessing. Will it be as comfortable on longer trips?

If anyone's owned either a vfr800 or thunderace then please let me know what you think..

The no brainer option is either sell the Mrs bike and put it towards a new bike that you both like and will be happy to ride/share.

Otherwise man up and use the free bike in the shed even if it's an SV as it's better than no road bike if you don't ride all the time, and are enjoying your off roaders most of the time.

That and your other needs for cash such as a wedding, is another good reason to use the bikes you've got for a year or so until there's spare cash for something that excites you more.

Yeah I can use the SV, it's alright I guess. Just seeing if there's anything more appealing for 1500 notes really.

I had a Thunderarse a few years ago and rode it from Stoke to Cognac to pick up the wife then onward for a tour of the med coast of France and Spain, then home again via Calais. Loaded up like a Spanish donkey with the wife on the back was absolutely no problem, still handled ok for the Port Vendres - Roses road even loaded up. Fast, roomy and reliable.

But I have a few issues

1. Thunderaces don't actually burn the oil, they just sort of use it, I mean obviously they do burn it, but not so you can actually see it, no blue smoke like you would normally see on a bike that "burns a bit of oil".
2. Never had any problem with my bike finding neutral, moving or at a standstill.
