Apart from it causing short-term bit of inconvenience, what are you bitching about?

Get a bloody grip

clearly its a loved piece of wood being left outside all year round, I'm not sure you can ever quantify its true value.

personally I think its just an age thing I have reached 40 something and occasionally find myself being a grumpy old bastard too, generally about meaningless shit, I try to remember what is was like to be young and not give a shit, they were happy days, I try to be happy, so should you, it'll make living better believe me.

Since I'm paying rent for the area in which the scaffolding is erected, I'm considering sending someone a bill. Should that be scaffolder, builder or landlord?

A bill for what?

A bill for the amount of rage tears you've shed over Fuck all?

Grow up.

What's the scaffolding for? If it's for repairs then if I recall correctly the Access to Neighbouring Land Act allows a homeowner access onto neighbouring land to carry out such repairs without permission of the landowner. Things like roof repairs, gutter cleaning etc.

They should have still asked permission - not yours since you aren't the landowner, they may have (although most likely haven't) asked your landlord. Even if you said no the point of the act still stands as basically they can't be done for tresspassing.

Might be worth telling your landlord anyway, since they have a duty of care to ensure reasonable use and enjoyment of your property. Make it his/her problem. Laughing

Use of your treasured piece of timber as a support is Interference with goods, much more serious Wink

If only OP didnt bitch about the people above actually caring about the state of the building he lives in.

I wonder if it will effect the amount of money he spends on heating.

It would be really petty to call the HSE and express your concern bordering on horror about this creaking edifice which doubtless doesn't even have a scaff-tag on it.

Have you ever seen a child within half a mile? Then hundreds of children could die.

Don't do that.

Ahh, but scaff tags are not a legal requirement. You must inspect scaffolding every seven days or sooner, or after any high wind, and you must keep a record of the inspections.

Thus, "doesn't even".

The real question is: why do you hate children?

Well, this is why I posted - sometimes the reactions of others can shed new light on a situation.

Also it has been quite useful to blow off steam, as found by some of the BCF rottweilers who came back to post again, and vote.. Wink

It's in my interest that the work is finished and the whole thing gone as soon as possible I think.

I know nothing of the law, but I had cause for complaint when the Council Contractor Cunts erected scaffolding around the flat I was in.

I was terrified that they would scratch my bike erecting the scaffolding, and they did.
They also didn't warn me they would be painting, so my bike was uncovered, that got speckled all over too.
Just for good measure they smashed up 6 paving stones I park on.

Thankfully I managed to wash 99% of the paint off before it set, and the bike was nicked shortly after, So I let it go. (like a bitch)

OP has reason to be concerned for his bikes safety if nothing else.

TLDR:
Put up a security camera.

...which is why you should remove or loosen a few nuts and bolts for them.
Also 3ft lengths of scaff bar come in very handy Shhh!

Beware loose screws and nails in your tyres, happened to me after some roofing work.
