Hi all,

need help getting out of this one, anyone had any luck avoiding paying for fines in southwark before?

I mistakenly parked in a residents only bit, where i thought it was pay and display (pay and display was on the opposite side of the road) and didn't pay for a ticket because it was about 2pm, outside of the hours for pay and display.

Bike was parked here ... https://goo.gl/maps/z6sTXHyUoD22 ... on the right, behind the black merc. i got off, seen the sign opposite but didn't see the sign a little further on that said residents. Came back to a visit from the parking ninjas.

Am i well and truly due for a rodgering or is there a way out of this one?

Any help much appreciated!!!

If it is Council appeal with pictures of the sign you thought applied to you and see what happens. Need to grovel a bit. If it is private do not acknowledge ANY contact from them.

Worked for me.

Use the appeals process, first time in borough, confused about bay markings etc etc. They usually let you off the first time. I've done it a few times in different boroughs had luck with Westminster and Camden.

Appealed a parking ticket with Islington as they still allowed you to pay the reduced fine after an (unsuccessful) appeal, and they tore up the ticket as the traffic warden didn't submit the correct evidence or some BS.

It's not 3 years ago, and the number of claims making it to court has been rising after the Beavis verdict in 2015, where he was drubbed by (drumroll) Parking Eye in the Supreme Court.

There's a whole industry of robo-claims and shyster paralegals making their living from it now, and I wouldn't ignore either a council ticket or a private invoice.

holy post resurrection batman!

Just a little update, it took nearly 2 months but i tried all the above, tried ignorance and tried to plead some form of leniency and they still said no.

So i had no choice but to falter and pay the reduced rate.

Lesson learnt, look up who can park where before we go out lol

Thanks all for your help though.

schoolboy error sir,

parking notice only applies to the side of the road it's on and only applies to the bay it is next to, if the bay stops and re-starts then it could be a different restriction.
