Wanting to get my first car (possibly an MX5) soon but the insurance is beyond a joke...With my bikes I'm with bikesure as they are consistently the cheapest by a large margin.
What car insurance places will insure a young driver for not a lot of money? I've found the best to be with Direct Line at the moment. One of the reasons it's expensive is that I have 1 fault claim and 1 non fault claim in the last few years and even though they are on bikes, Direct Line take them into account.
I called Admiral and they ask for the claims but as they are on a bike they don't use in the costing of a policy... apparently... but then they quote about £3k for an MX5
TL;DR
Please advise on how to get cheap car insurance for young person without getting a really shit car (I'd rather just not have a car) ____________________ Had: '06 CBR125R + '01 GSF600 + '07 SPRINT ST 1050 + '80 CB250 RSA + '93 Ducati 900SS
Have: '13 GSXR-1000 + '01 CB500S

I don't think it's really possible.
My daughter is an HGV driver, with a years experience driving bloody great lorries. She is under 25 and her shitbox Fiat Panda 1.1 is some ridiculous amount. Can't remember exactly but £1500 springs to mind. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Get a van.(then remap it) More useful than a car and just as warm and dry. Also if it's white you can drive like a utter
bastard and other road users just seem to accept it. It's also like a mobile burka. Nobody notices you at all.
Even less if you wear a hi viz vest.
I've seen some surprised looks on cagers faces when I'm bearing down on them on the motorway at over 90mph
in a 2t Sprinter. At that speed the wake is quite something and I have many amusements watching cars wobble
as I pass them. Nothing car wise that I can really afford will ever go like my bike so sod it a van it is. And my
bike goes in the back so it's like Thunderbird 2. You'd also be surprised how much beer money comes your way when
you have a van. Took 60quid off of someone recently for moving 3 pieces of furniture 8 whole miles.
Whole job took me about an hour and a half from leaving home to returning again and I picked up another
contact who regularly needs a van and driver for the odd job here and there. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Exactly as above,
16 year old sack of crap 206 burning vegetable oil (free fuel) is for transport.
Brutal 1999 YZF R1 is for fun.
I'll never be able to afford a properly 'fun' car that's anything like a decent bike so why bother.

Did you ring Gladiator for van specific insurance? It's a trade insurer, you may have a better price from them. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Tell them you're a landlord or a handyman or similar. Get quote for just the basic vehicle cover and not all the other
trade related insurances they will try to add on like tool cover and public liability cover, goods in transport insurance
and whatnot. My cover is only TPF&T. My other insurances are purchased separately elsewhere .You may
have more luck with them, worth a try anyway. Admiral own them btw. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Gladiator won't insure me at all but the cheapest I could get on a van insurance comparison site was £6,500.... ____________________ Had: '06 CBR125R + '01 GSF600 + '07 SPRINT ST 1050 + '80 CB250 RSA + '93 Ducati 900SS

Fuuuuuuuuuu..... £6500 Christ man, my full vehicle insurance bill
is about 700 quid a year. 2 bikes, one on L's,
one warm hatch, and my van. That's just mental. 6.5k ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha
