Just curious how much scrapes and scratches bother you on a motorbike, as I'm planning to sell mine next month and it has a few battle scars Shifty

My options are sell it cheap, or put a couple of hundred into it and sell it for a fair price. In my experience people normally go for the bargain. Also if it does massively put people off and I only get stupid offers, I'm not against keeping it.

I voted for sort of... The thing is its cosmetic... Its something easily (for the most part) fixable. But I would expect to pay less because to fix it would cost more...

But I wouldnt walk away from a sale because of some broken fairing... ill just take it into consideration and get the price down to cover the costs to repair.

Its also about how much damage there is. Scratch is painwork? Small dent in tank? Those things are easy to sort out.

Heck even a little rust around the edges of some cosmetic parts... no real biggy tbh.

I bought my 125 with battle scars, but I was expecting to drop it (based on BCF advice Smile), then when I didn't it did actually bother me. I guess with this bike cos I inflicted the wounds I've accepted it, but personally it would put me off and make me look a lot harder at the bike.

All depends on my budget and what I'm looking for at the time. I just try to be realistic. If the funds are limited, I'll accept more damage, as long as the bike is roadworthy. But usually, I'll try to make sure I've got enough to go for something in overall nice condition. Spending to repair cosmetic stuff before selling is usually money down the drain, unless the damage is particularly bad/obvious though.

I never think about resale value when I buy a bike though. I buy it for me to enjoy, and I'll take what I can get if I do decide to sell, although I'll try to keep it in nice nick while I own it, and I'll clean it up as good as I can get it before selling.

It's a boon if you're after a bargain.

If you can't find anything better in budget, it wouldn't bother me. My GPZ500 was a bit of a mess, it still rode well.

However, given the choice between a scraped bike and a minter at much the same price, I'd take the minter. Why wouldn't you? Reverse snobbery? That way lies getting a perfectly nice decent bike and ratting it Arrow hipsterism.

That's what worries me a little, right now the cheapest MT-03's a high-mileage example, being sold by a dealer for 2k. So mine will look like a bargain in comparison, however if lots of £1600-1800 bikes start appearing (what they normally tend to go for) then it'll look less like a deal.

Well I dropped my 400 putting it on the paddock stand this morning. Again. Although on the patio this time rather than the middle of the road. Then I was glad it has a shitty paint job so I just swore and picked it up. It's an old 4t track bike, no one gives a fuck.

Had it been my x5 or YR5 I would of been looking for a suitable place to hang a noose.

My 1100 is in standard paint but has a few scars and cracks as expected after 26 years and 60k. I keep it clean but I don't get precious about it cause I've never known it when it was mint. It's a working bike.

So in your ads, put the emphasis on how well you have looked after it through servicing and maintenance, how it has sailed through all its MOTs, and what a good, reliable commuter/everyday bike it makes, despite not being cosmetically perfect (some assumptions may have been made Smile ). And come up with a decent reason for sale, don't bullshit, let the potential buyer ask the questions without offering info unasked.

Hi

For me it would depend on the bike, and what I was using it for. Can't be too precious if the bike is going to be ridden on the road, but scratches on a nice toy would really annoy me. Scratches on a cheapy commuter would just mildly annoy me.

All the best

Katy

If I'm buying, I'll haggle the shit out of you, unless you have a price where I feel I'm stealing it anyway.

Once it's mine, I give no fucks, it's rare I sell a bike, as they usually can't be fixed any more, and I break them for parts. Current bike being the exception.

All depends. I must say that owning a cosmetically tatty bike does stop you stressing about it. You just ride it.

I had no qualms about leaving my old R1 anywhere.

When i'm shopping for bikes I actively seek out ones with cosmetic damage. Pristine ones are far too nice for me to ruin, plus with damage I have some space to make it my own.

When I was riding around London for 2+ hours a day just commuting, with extras during the day going to customers, I was happy with each bike when it did get knocked over, as I could stop worrying about when it would get its first knock. So inside London while commuting, it would not bother me at all.

Now however I am working from home and moving to the Grampians in the next few months, and I will be looking for a garage queen that get used more for weekend bimbles on the three days a year there is no snow.

So no it did not used to bother me, but now it will heh.

As said by others, it depends what bike we're talking about.

If I shitted up my Kawasaki, I'd be as angry as an angry thing on international angry day.
However when I had my old GT 250's , I didn't worry to much about pretty-ness.
I would love an old CZ 250 twin that I could keep in good mechanical order and not worry if it looked like a pile of poo.

Cosmetic damage wouldn't phase me too much if the price reflected the condition.
I wouldn't however, buy some shitter that needed anything more than panel or tank restoration.
