Remember that cheap (home bargains?) oil? I can't find the thread, but I asked the missus to get me some. I did an oil change on Saturday.

Yeah, that's not JASO2. Clutch slip every-fucking-where. Nothing else changed or adjusted, just the oil.

Another oil-change this weekend methinks, and I'll chuck the other bottle of the shit in with the old oil I have for lubing the chain.

Trying to look surprised here...

...although the diplomatic answer's you can't tell how every bike's going to like every oil. Clutch slip heaven Magnatec was fine in mine for example.

Yup, that one.

I didn't expect it to be amazeballs, but shit, this is fucking terrible. Even the cheapest halfrauds car oil is orders of magnitude better than this shit.

I fell victim to the Internet telling me certain car oils would be fine in my zx6r many moons ago and had the same problem as you. I saved a few quid on the oil but lost a weekend draining and flushing the oil and fitting replacement clutch plates and springs. I don't know why people take the chance for such a pitiful saving, Halfords motorcycle specific 10w/40 semi synthetic is on offer now and then for about 20 quid so I normally buy a couple of bottles.

Imagine my pain when I left work for a week and someone had decided to help me out by doing an oil change on our Quad bike which I was meant to do when I got back. They used castrol branded car oil and sure enough, instant clutch slip. That was expensive as it spent the week having the tits revved off it until I got back, the centrifugal clutch was down to the metal and had turned blue!

I skimp on plenty of things on my motorbike and can be as tight as the next guy, but tyres and engine oil I at least make sure are half decent.

Tesco usually have castrol power 1 for around £4 a litre, but seen it recently for £3 on special, worth checking out your local

Currently using some random brand from the internet. 10W-40, doesn't mention motorcycles, but has a picture of a motorcycle on it, so clearly its top-notch stuff! Thumbs Up

I used proper oil for my 125 for the first change. After that it was no name stuff for all bikes. Nothing gone wrong that can be definitively related to oil.

Ive always used oil from work. Volvo hgv diesel oil, 10w30. Its volvo branded but discovered its actually Mobil Delvac with a volvo sticker on, JASO-DH2. Never had any problems with it. Any diesel oil really.. always been fine in my bikes.

Interesting you should say that. The YouTube chappy with the CBR600F who's documented doing over 300,000 miles (over 400,000 claimed now IIRC) reckons he's been using diesel truck oil for the past couple of hundred thousand.

Im not fussy when it comes to oil, as long as its slippy. But i swear by diesel oil, especially the stuff aimed towards hgv's

I've used bog-standard 10W-40 for cars, whatever the shop has in stock really, without issue or clutch slip many times. But this stuff. Jesus. It got changed out last night after work, it was that bad.
