Stupidly was in a rush to get a bike and a guy offered me one down at the pub. Spare of the moment thing i didn't research it because the price was low.

It seems these Chinese Skyjets are bloody awful from my research.

I only plan to keep the bike for a month or 2 while im looking for a different bike.

Is this bike likely to last even a few months? Already the rev and speedo don't work but ive had a sat nav on constantly which is probably more accurate at telling your current speed than the speedo.

Took it for a long ride over the weekend traveled probably over 100 miles on it and to be fair the bike performed without problems. Slow and sluggish but it did hold together and get me round.

Back brakes are squeaking a little though. Is this of concern?

Disc/Drum?

Despite all the anti-Chinese that goes on, I had a '97 plate Jialing approx 2007-09, and was bomb proof other than a few bits that could be bought from Wemoto from an XL125 from the 70's. Still on the road even today from a quick check of the AskMID. Thumbs Up

Do a bit of maintenance on it. Change the engine oil and filter if fitted. Check and maintain the tyre pressures. Make sure the chain is correctly lubricated and adjusted. Do not thrash it, especially when the engine is cold. Correct any other faults it has, and get a workshop manual. Is the rear brake a disc brake or a drum brake? A drum brake that squeals often just needs the dust cleaning out. Do not breathe the dust. If looked after, the bike could last you quite a while. Maintenance is the key.

It's one of the few Chinese bikes that I'd actually avoid in its many brandings - there are far too many "just needs" heaps out there.

That said, I strongly suspect it's a bike that attracts the very worst sort of buyers (no offence, Madam), so maybe you can beat the odds.

I agree with giving it a damn good cleaning and lubricating inside and out. Should be a rear disc, but it's likely never been cleaned.

I wouldn't waist your money on it I had a sktjet sj125-23 and I had nothing but problems with it, everything was breaking from brakes sproket falling apart, electrical problems then the last thing I borght fir it was a new fuel tank as it was leaking from underneath and fuel
Was running down swing arm and onto rear disk, I had nothing but problems with the piece of shit I hated it and lost out on loads of money, which I never got back.

My advise is scrap it for parts and buy a decent 125, other Chinese bikes I've heard are good but the skyjets are a piece of shit

Silly investment was silly. Whatever, it's all done now.

Run the thing into the ground and do whatever you need to it to give you the feeling it wont kill you during a commute, through mechanical negligence at least.

Scrap when finished and you're no worse than, well bar financially, before this episode.

Enjoy the insurance admin fee that probably makes the investment a hundred times less worth it.

Isnt this the same bike as the lexmoto xtrs 125? Very Happy

Well... if your dash isnt working. No lights? anything at all? Make sure its actually plugged in? It has a 9 pin plug and a bullet plug. The bullet is the power, the 9 pin is the various inputs and earth...

I honestly dont know what condition your one is in... but I would have said a couple of months should be fine.

Do i regret getting my xtrs? No not really. Sure its not a great bike and I d rather have a CBR125, but I couldnt afford a CBR and my xtrs was a steal at 250 quid and got me on the road.

Sure my bike isnt perfect though, its not powerful even for a 125 and it has a tendency to die after a while of cruising at 60mph... Something ive yet to fix.

And it seems to attract rust like no ones business...

But it was always a short term thing, till I got my full licence sorted out and a decent new bike...

This is what gets me and I make no bones about repeating it. A young lad/lass wanting to learn to ride. Conscientious parents say new bike and go and buy this piece of shit knowing no better.

Youngster keeps breaking down at best, killing themselves at worst. They are put off bikes or parents say no more, get a car licence and we will sort you out from there. Another rider lost. Evil or Very Mad

I really don't think you should have been kidding on this lol. In the single week i have had it the engine is now sounding a little strange and isn't ticking over so well.

It ticks over but sounds like its going to cut out every few minutes but doesn't either way not sounding very healthy Rolling Eyes

I believe it to have disks not drum. But fucking hell this is not going so well now. Think im going to buy a new bike this week.

Another issue seems to have started today. The gear shifter is not coming back up after going down a gear. So when im in 3rd and the lights change to red suddenly and you would normally bang through the gears into first i cant do this as of today. I can go down 1 gear then i have to put my foot under the shifter and give it a push up then go down and keep doing this to go down more than 1 gear at a time.

Any idea why the shifter is not springing back up on its own? Is this a general problem or do bikes have some kind of brake fluid or something?

i don't know much about motorcycles only passed my CBT last week Laughing
