Some may remember a previous thread about a hit and run on my car,
Well the culprits of said hit and run were robbed last night, the trailer that hit my car was stolen, turns out it wasn`t insured.

I have it all on CCTV, with half decent footage of the car and tea leaves,
So, do I tell them and hand over footage, or say feck them for previous crimes ?

First thing I'd do is put my house on the market and look for a better area to live in.

What was the resolution of your previous drama?

I can't think why you'd lift a finger to help them. Do unto others and all that, but its not like they'll suddenly say "Gosh, your example has taught us the error of our ways. We did so drive into your car, here be compo."

Have they asked? I'd wait until they asked.

"Do you have anything on your CCTV?"
"Yes, yes I do."

Close door.

Am not aware of your previous situation, though sounds rubbish and from context amazed you've not gotten comp..

As to current matter: if Popo get involved, it'll end up out of your hands. If they notice you have CCTV and that it may have caught something on camera they can request it from you and you'll have to supply it.

I had some kid vandalise both of my cars plus a few others in our shared lot months ago. One of the other neighbours had to hand over his CCTV footage. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to get the rotter Evil or Very Mad That was coming from a kindly neighbour, not someone with a grudge...

or just say camera loop records 24 hours... don't have the footage you want...

you don't have to give police your personal property just because they ask for it.

Ah let me interject. Several years ago you said you'd only be concerned when the police did 'bad' things against law abiding people.

Pamela Somerville for instance you called a vicious harpy.

Usual thing do it or we'll break your f***ing legs and invoice you for it. As individuals (drunk Russians aside) don't like leg breaky or invoices...

https://citytog.wordpress.com/2017/03/06/how-the-uk-police-can-coerce-journalists-into-surrendering-photographs/

Nutshell

Quote:
The police wanted to seize some of my work photos to use as evidence in a prosecution...

Rather than trying (and likely failing) to get a warrant to seize the photos, the prosecutor used a tactic that nobody had heard of before.

He got a warrant to seize all of my cameras, computers, memory cards, etc, even though the photos were in a secure location, not at my home or in my possession. I was then given 24 hours to retrieve and hand over the photos, or the police would raid my home and take everything, effectively ending my career.

Oh just to quell the if you comply then they have no reason to break your f**king legs argument.

Quote:
While the seizure of the images was an issue, the *real* issue was that they threatened to take away his tools of the trade if he didn't comply, and that the threat is still standing even though he *has* complied and provided them with copies. It's the next step down the slippery slope started with "provide your encyption keys, or we'll lock you up" that could be applied to people they suspected of a crime, only now it's "we think you might have some evidence, even though you didn't actually commit the crime, so hand it over or we'll put you out of work."

So it's less a case of thanks mate we won't break your f**king legs now thanks for the help.

It's turned to watch yourself sonny, even though you obeyed orders we might still come round and break your f**king legs anyway.

Like when somebody puts their hands up is lying on the ground and gets shot by the police anyway.

Burn footage to disc.

Wait for them to ask.

Give them disc.

Hope that they don't watch and simply give it to 5-0.

Plot twist - disc is recording of trailer vs car incident.
Bonus points if windmilling genetalia features on disc.

I'd probably supply the footage but not to help the neighbours. Realistically they're not getting their shit back either way and also realistically a conviction isn't going to get them any significant compensation when they're getting it at 50p/week.

However it may potentially help get the other set of theives off the streets for a short time and prevent the same thing happening to someone else..

This. Also it might help relations if there's any friction after the reversing incident, which may or may not bother you depending on how you get on with your neighbours.

keep quiet as knowing the laws here you would probably be slapped with perverting the course of justice then charged and thrown in jail

just be smug that you could help em but your not gonna help em and keep it to yourself

Giving them video of something not related is not perverting the course of justice.

I would say nothing then a few months later if the opportunity came up in passing conversation...

you should have asked me to check the CCTV. You know I have it....still too late now. Will be long overwritten....still never mind....

- reminds them of their losing the original accident wriggle out
- reminds them someone had their trailer
- points out they missed an opportunity to catch them

Triple word score Very Happy

Has he asked for it?

When/If he does just say "What camera?" Call him a "Fucking Liar" and generally act like he did. If he looks contrite or apologises I might give it to him. You get to have mugged him off AND be the bigger man.
