missing PMs

Just been into my PMs and there's a load missing - all to one member. Am I right in presuming that if a member deletes their account all their PMs to another member go with their account? This is the only way I can understand this. The PMs I sent to this person are gone from my sent PM list too, btw.

I've never known this happen on other phpBB forums, so not sure what's gone on here. I just came to PM a mate to ask him if his dad's okay and there's nowt there - no previous PM exchanges, no sent PMs, etc. Very strange.

Users can't delete their account.

Messages you've sent go in your outbox until they've been read by the recipient and then they move to your sentbox.

Thanks Ste. But what I'm saying is there's a BCF member, who I know irl, and we use BCF to contact each other, arrange to meet up, etc.

I came to send him a PM earlier - and there are no PMs from him or to him, despite the fact we've exchanged numerous PMs.

I can't figure out wth is going on with this.

Btw, and afaicr, the user name of the member I'm trying to PM is throttle-ape, and I can't find this name on the memberlist either:

My bet is that you've got the username wrong.

Any details of something you remember that he posted can be used to find that particular post and then you can see the username.

Nope - definitely throttleape (but yes, could be e.g. _throttle_ape_ etc. etc. although I'm 95% certain the user name is just throttle-ape). However could one possibility be that, because he hasn't posted on nor made any threads his account has been suspended or deleted?

Just to be clear, I've exchanged a number of PMs with him - including some quite detailed ones explaining various routes we've ridden (and which I'd hoped were still in my sent box) - but there's no sign of any of them either in my main received PMs list nor in my sent box.

Only thing I can is that all this messaging actually happened on email, and I've just misremembered it as BCF PMs. Man though - really do think it was bcf pms. Damn.

Ok - spoke to my mate earlier this afternoon and he assures me that we pm'd back and forth on bcf.

Current theory is that inactive accounts get auto-deleted - and take any previous PM activity with them.

Be useful if an admin could confirm this and if possible, say what level of inactivity triggers deletion.

I'm alive! Had to make a new account. After a period of inactivity the username just wasnt recognised - thats happened twice. Also as a side note when I try PM someone i get "you have sent too many personal messages recently"
