Hi,
I have two questions: one motorcycle and one car related.

Can anyone recommend a make of paddock stand? I can go from entry level to mid range.

Also, my car (Nissan Micra 2005 - don't laugh!) has had one of those warning lights come on. I can detect nothing wrong with the car. I have been told I should get a car fault code reader.

Does anyone know anything about car fault code readers? And, can they recommend one?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Not actually a paddock stand, but I've got an abba and much prefer it

+1 on the Abba stand. A great bit of kit but a little pricey - worth it IMO if you intend on doing a lot of your own maintenance. Might not suit every bike though so check first.

Good code readers are very expensive. Cheap ones are...cheap. I usually just get a mate who owns and MOT centre to do it for me.

Abba.

Nothing else matches up to the ease of use, flexibility and stability of these. Pair it with a headstock stand and your life is complete.

Another Thumbs Up for an Abba stand, but I also use an Oxford Premium paddock stand which is nice and stable and sturdy.

For the car I've used this paired with EOBD-Facile free app. Connects wirelessly easily and does the job.

May help if you let us know which bike it's for Smile Not sure an abba stand would work on yours.

Nip down one day and I'll stick my (cheap) code reader on it. Might get a result.

Forget a front paddock stand- not very solid I found since rests under forks- also has limitations. get the Abba Superbike Package 3 and a rear paddock-does everything Thumbs Up - the rear is just for convenience for small stuff.

ELM are compatible with Android if your phone is that OS, or also Windows.

e.g.

Beware shit versions out there.

Yeah, left that long ass thread he made not the forum.

Expect a magical exit every-time he's done posting.

Many thanks.

Consider if you're in the position to be giving out knowledge.

I'm not recommending it (over anything else) but I've got a cheap paddock stand someone gave me which has been fine. Biketek or something, think they cost £20ish.

I have a simple hand held OBDII reader. Will read basic codes and clear them on most cars. Some of the fancier functions don't work well with some operating systems - getting it to work with my old Jeep was a case of turning the ignition on part way through the diagnostic process, otherwise it wouldn't read codes. It will read codes off my Triumph no probs, never used in my Merc, or the wifes Civic. Strangely the Merc and Honda seem to be less trouble than the Jeep

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-MaxiScan-MS309-OBD-II-Reader/dp/B00F3V9MYG/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1489905693&sr=8-16&keywords=obd-ii+reader

For my Triumph I also have the Tuneboy software (freeware) and a OBD to USB cable so it hooks up to my laptop. Full test functions and full engine mapping. More than I'll ever mess about with and is vehicle specific.
Probably some generic software ones out there that'll work, but I've not used them.

Stands.
I have a Triumph paddock stand which I don't really rate as better than others and an Easy Rizer which is versatile, but bit of a pain to set up. Once the bikes on it, it's stable and I found it easy to work on the bike with it. I got it second hand off ebay and the main attraction was being able to lift different types of bikes, and it's relatively small storage footprint.
