I have a marauder 125 which has been having some problems and I am trying to understand how the starter clutch works so that I can see if I need to replace it.

My starter clutch has had all new springs and plungers and looks fine but does not stop the large sprocket it slots over from moving even though the manual says it should.

Also it can move both ways which it shouldn't so I'm hoping someone can maybe explain how a starter clutch, which sits over a sprockets collar but which has no connections such as a grooved interior it would slot into, manages to stop the sprocket from moving as I am usually reasonably clever but just do not get how it can stop a sprocket with which it has no inter connection.

Thanks,
Dave

New springs and plungers fine, but what about the rollers?
they do all the work
Google 'Sprag clutch' for tutorials, they can vary but the principle is basically the same.

If yours wont lock in one direction and run free in the other
I'll guess its either wear or assembly error
