There was a 750 Laverda near our work that sat chained to a lamp post for probably 5 years. The cover got scruffy and eventually shredded itself in some high wind. A couple of days later there was a new cover on it.
A bike parked on the road for 9 months isn't abandoned - it's just parked on the road. I just don't know how anyone can decide to assume ownership of a bike just because they don't think it's fair that it's not ridden.

So he's just made himself liable for a bike he can't ride and isn't his anyway?

Rank outside outcome 100/1 he contacts legal owner of bike, who doesn't get back straight away, instead puts same number plate on a different bike and buzzes a few dozen speed cameras.

It's been a few days now, any kick offs?

I suppose going off previous posts, it'd be perfectly possible for him to take this V5 to a place that prints plates and get a few 'spares' run off for future use.

Getting a number-plate without a V5 is simplicity itself anyway, plenty of sellers on eBay will sell you a 'show plate' that is in the correct font/size/spacing. That's how I got new plates for my trailer/caravan, cheaper and easier than faffing with V5s in Halfords.

In which case they're probably due out about now, just a thought

How do you know? You have a photographic memory of all the bike bays going back 9 months in East London?

How did the owner react when your mate said "I'm now the registered keeper of your bike, fancy flogging it to me so I'm not just having to tax and insure someone elses bike?"

Well, the bloke had 'forgotten' about it apparently as I was leaving I saw him trying to start it it was obvious it wasn't going to start just slow clicks from the relay, still he tried it for a couple of minutes Laughing

He drove of in a 66 plate Merc 4x4 leaving the bike with the steering lock off and only secured by a cheapo oxford chain, in East London Rolling Eyes

It hasn't moved for at least 9 months according to my colleague as 9 months ago he picked it up from the floor, that's how he first noticed it. The mirror is still folded in from hitting the floor.

The bike is worth less than a set of tyres on that Merc, which I reckon he'll never pay for as it'll be traded in for the next model Laughing

The money doesn't translate to happiness, I reckon I had as much fun if not more 10 years ago going out with £20 as I do now going out with £100. (Thats brexit for you Wink ) I doubt he would have more fun on the Hypothetical £2000 night out.

I've got a fixie I built for £30 rotting in my parents garden I've forgotten about, I'm sure someone somewhere wished they could have that. (I must put it on Ebay BTW!)

Attempting to obtain property by deception.

Making a false declaration.

Both completely unsurprisingly are criminal offences.

No I don't but luckily Google streetview does.

He hasn't done either of those.

Street view is dated Jun 2016, So 9 months ago. I can't speak to when it was left. I can only go by what he told me.

He did both.

He applied for the Owners contact details to see about buying it this was rejected. Then he applied for the v5 the reason he gave was 'Abandoned Vehicle'

While I certainly wouldn't have done it, nothing was deceptive or fraudulent.
