I've used it on my shed, mixed it 60:40 (engine oil) and was surprised how nice it looked. Smells good too.
Could probably do with another coat sometime this summer. ____________________ DRZ400-SM

proper creosote had tar and other not particularly healthy stuff in it.
the EU and environmental brigade gradually had all the nasties removed making it nice and water soluble and nature friendly
So, first bit of rain and it washes off the wood. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

the ideal way of preserving timber is to dunk it in a tank of proper creosote and pressurise it so it penetrates the timber
it's how railway sleepers were done, although they've been helped over the years by locomotives dropping oil on them.
my fence is looking a bit shabby after only a few years of the panels being in and they were pressure treated with the new crap you have to use, will replace them with GRP next time. ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

Did my shed with 50:50 creocote and used ATF oil. Reapplied after 5 years. Shed still looks like new and it seems to keep the spiders away pretty well.
Have used it with used engine oil as well on fence panels.
Accidently mixed it with some used diff oil one time - that did smell pretty bad and darkened that fence panel a bit too much.
It will stay "wet" for a while because of the oil, but it does seem to last far beyond domestically available preservatives, and there's no notable smell after a week or so.
Preferable to do on a hot day, bone dry fence and warm oil will really soak in. |
