Test ride it.

The Fireblade is easy to ride. It's by far the least intimidating 1000cc sportsbike. Probably no more demanding than the 600.

You can die on a 600 the same as a 1000. You may as well get the bike you really want! It'll probably be easier to ride at lower revs too. Test ride one Thumbs Up

Ride the bike you want man, you'll only regret it later in life that you didn't do it, that's my philosophy anyway.

Had about an hour on it before the rain started Sad
Just done the deal for £13.20 more a month (oh no £3.20 more than I'd said! )
Picking it up weds and the forecast looks good!

Congrats on the new bike. I had a similar choice a couple of years back and went for the CBR650 - the faired version over a second hand 600RR. A couple of years down the line I am starting to look at a jump up, but it will be to a litre when I do as the 600 doesn't represent enough of a change. I agree with what has been said above about getting the bike that you want.

Things that are currently holding me back from going out in a couple of months and getting a new blade:

1) By far and above the biggest one for me - it'd get stolen. The nightlife shall we say around me in London is very active. Most months something happens to my 650 from the bike cover being knifed to indicators being bent off to other tampering / annoyances. A new or nearly new supersport would be like shit to the proverbial flies. I would need a garage - another expense at £200 a month rental or £30ish grand to buy.

2) The possibility of losing my license quite quickly. With these bikes you have to wring their neck to get the real giggles. That means 3 figure speeds and I am too prone to the adrenalin still Smile

3) Is the real life difference all that much? The 650 has more torque down low and spends a lot of its time commuting around the south circular. I reckon to 50mph there would be very little in it between my 650 and the 600RR, and beyond that when the RR wakes up then you are running into issue number 2 above. I've not had a great deal of experience with big bikes, but I know when I have got in with a few others on big sport bikes on a commute home, they're certainly not disappearing into the distance.

Having said all that, I totally get the attraction to the sports bikes. I think you'll find that on motorway cruises you still get hammered at speed, but that isn't really what the RR is built for. It's for the track and the lanes on a Sunday. Enjoy all the same - I may be posting back here in a few months time looking for people to talk me out of getting a blade Smile

I fully agree with you on the 650F front. Round town its (in my opinion) far more suited to it than the RR or any other super sport bike probably. If I lived in London or any big city I'd probably stick with the 650F.

My riding is all weekend and lanes (Lytham St Annes), so I didn't really use the bike too much round town, but when I did the low down torque really was noticeable.

In a perfect world I'd have a cruiser and a sports bike. Unfortunately I'm not Richie Rich so i'll make do with just one!

Looks nice, probably worth coating it in ACF-50 just because we're not entirely in weekend warrior weather yet. They're creeping out the woodwork mind since I was like one out of three or four getting new rubber when I visited the garage.

Could probably sell the plate to RJ. Just upgraded to a new duke because "features" so is well minted, make a penny out of it.

Thumbs Up

edit: that blue key looks like an Oxford.

He'll be up to Devil's Bridge and the Lake District today if he's got any sense - it's a beautiful day in Blackpool!

Glad you like it, I can imagine your smile!

I'm getting another bike next week after a couple of years off and I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas again.

Now I've calmed down and the adrenaline has gone, I can make a proper post.

Yesterday was a massive eye opener for me, and in hindsight I was probably a bit stupid in my riding and I wont be pushing it that hard again on public roads. Considering this though, I probably learnt more yesterday in 150 miles than in all my lessons and tests.

I'm thankful my best mate is a decent, fast, but sensible rider. Following him I could just copy his entry points into corners and also his braking.

I did have a few brown pants moments, one being a near 90 degree turn I took too wide (thankfully no traffic the other way), and another stupidly overtaking my mate on a massive hill upwards. 100mph jump over crest was very brown.

Other than that I hardly 50p'd any corners , was carrying good speed through them and thoroughly enjoyed the twisties.

The bike makes a beautiful growl 3-7k then screams almost f1 like 7-14k, though I rarely got past 10k, im just not good/brave/stupid enough. Ill save that for track days :p

Balls to being sensible, sounds like you've found a bike you enjoy.

Don't get caught doing the naughties and everyone's a winner.

Lovely bike!

Crash protection
Crash protection
Crash protection
Tail tidy
Slip-on can
Crash protection
Levers
Seat cowl
Remove pillion pegs

In that order. Would probably be wanting to swap the headlight and indicators for LEDs too, personally. Very Happy

Why would you want to sod about fitting LED headlights, what is that actually going to add?

Ride it, have fun Thumbs Up

For the five mins that it takes sodding about, they're brighter and more eye-catching to other road users, making you a bit easier to see and they make the bike look much better that the stock, dim, yellow bulbs.
