Just how much of the stud is sticking out? If it's more than 20mm-30mm then you have no reason to drill it

You could cut a thread into it and use two solid nuts worked against each other...or file a hex shape so a 6 sided socket fits snugg over it....

Better yet you could weld a nut on it and use that to remove it as I am doing with the last exhaust manifold stud that wont budge

Post a pic of what you're actually working on as there is, normally, a way around any problem. Without seeing it it's difficult to give advice

Seriously, 2 days and 7 pages to remove a stud that you can't even post a picture of.

Today I've been fighting with the studs on my exhaust, 1 came out easily enough:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/andy36586/Stud1_zpsuai5ddh6.jpg

The other 2 aren't playing fairly at all.

1 out:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/andy36586/Stud2_zpsioujq7og.jpg

The last one:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/andy36586/Stud3_zpsnhweun6z.jpg
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/andy36586/Stud4_zpsqrsnbzuz.jpg

With the stuck 2 I tried cutting a slot which didn't work, I hammered in a larger allen key which didn't work, today I got tore in to them with the dremmel (type tool) and HSS drill bits and got the heads off, 1 came out fairly easily after that.... the final picture is the last one that is being a pain.... but I've ground 2 sides flat and the puddle is GT85, which I'm going to leave there overnight as I can get a good grip of it, but it isn't budging and eventually the mole grips slip off.

An auto centre punch wouldn't be my tool of choice for marking up a stud.
Ok for smashing side windows of a car or popping the seized float pins from a Mikuni BS carb but I doubt it would make much impression in this case.

While I admire your tenacity I really do think some time at night school learning the basics would be well spent.

What did the course used to be called? EPC2 ?

A centre punch should just be a chunk of steel with a pointy end, applied with a big hammer.

https://www.screwfix.com/p/centre-punch-set-5pc/14390

I've attached a picture of a centre punch I've done in a bit of M16 stud I had laying around. If the auto punch is getting that deep, it'll probably be alright.

There are many others like it, but that one is yours.

Well, it did a great job putting a tiny dent into a piece of thin copper, but as above, you want a hardened spike and a hammer.

I can't believe you actually posted a number of pics.

And then, atop that disbelief, I am further stunned by your inability to grasp the concept of showing the bit you're having problems with.

Why on god's green earth are you showing pictures of not-the-thing-i-want-help-with, when you could just as easily show a picture of the thing you're stuck with.

Why are you being such a mong? Are you doing it on purpose, just to wind people up? Is it your fetish? Are you shuffling knuckles every time someone tells you to drill your stud?

That did make me laugh, but not as much as when he purchased a crappy automatic center punch for what he believes is hardened steel.

Laughing

Man that did make me chortle some.

Oh, and that video of it working has 25k views! I wouldn't have imagined there were 25k people that know what they are and dont know what they do, so they need to view that video. I mean it's not exactly rocket science to imagine what one would do, or even how to use it.

25,000 morons, of that level.

I think if you need to watch that video of how to use it....

You shouldn't be attempting it Smile

Which reminds me of the windscreen protector I saw last year with the warning message...

"WARNING : REMOVE BEFORE DRIVING"

Really????? Rolling Eyes

- Hit it hard enough so it works first time.

If you treat it like a princess - it will move and your 2nd hit will be in the wrong place.

- Use a decent light source underneath so you can see REALLY well what you are doing.

- Don't hit your thumb, it hurts, a lot.

Pointy end towards the stud, blunt end towards the hammer

Thin end of the hammer in your hand, not the fat end

and...putting your pants on before your trousers rather than after works best Very Happy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Those centre punches in your link are imperial sizes. If you're working on an 8mm stud, you should be ordering metric sized ones.

He can buy one of those Newtons-to-pounds hammers that NASA uses, for only $600.

Is that a serious question.

Because your comment invites deletion. You have surpassed BodyFazer, Smiler and even your own mother in ineptitude.

I literally await your next failure.

It doesn't matter that it's imperial. I use a 5/16 punch for literally everything. But then again, I know how to use a drill.
