I switched from a Skoda Fabia VRS 1.9TDI to an Audi S3 with lots more power and which was worth over 4 times
what the skoda was. Insurance dropped to 400 a year from 700 for the Skoda. I have no idea why?

Have you tried Adrian Flux? They won't insure me where I live but when I've tried other postcodes (even in slightly shit areas) they've offered a cheap quote on an MX-5 (£675).

Just got off the phone with them... nothing better than £3500 for a 2007 MX5...

I'm on the phone to another company they passed me onto for a cheaper quote now...

Yeah I didn't see you were in London Embarassed They won't give me a good price in London either (they wouldn't actually give me a quote). Crappy parts of Essex etc. is where I got the £675. How old are you? Insurers like different people and different cars, but the cheapest I've found to insure is an Ecoboost Fiesta (£800 odd), problem's they're 5k+ to buy. So I got a Volvo C30 and insured it for a grand Neutral

Yep being in South London really doesn't help...innit blud.
I'm 21 and have had a car license for about 2 and a half years.

The things is, I don't need a car yet, so I'd rather wait until I can afford the insurance on a 3.0 Z4 or something like that than get a shit car I don't like.

All I want from a car is something which is aesthetically pleasing, has a good rude boy sound system and is nippy.

When I passed my test at 24 I was getting quoted over 3 grand for 1.2 Corsa's, adding my dad to the insurance brought it down by about £500 (to £2800) but it was still way too much. I've had my license for 4 years now, and have one partial fault accident on my record.

I'm guessing a C30's shit? Smile The R-design has a bodykit, and I think a decent sound system with an AUX connector etc. I've got the base model which doesn't even play MP3 CDs Sad Anything bigger than the 1.8L engine will be too rapey on insurance tho.

That C30 is nice enough, the boot is ugly though haha, it's no Z4 but it is nice Thumbs Up

I'd happily do my own audio install so that's no biggie.

Running a quote on this C30:

£1,566.77... seems it's in the same class at that rover, it's the same company.

unless you buy a car it will never happen as 1st insurance is still first insurance

just paid 500 quid to insure a 1.25 fiesta that's worth 2 grand

last year I paid nearly 700 quid on a Peugeot 206 that cost 300 quid

I agree but I don't think the 1 years NCB and year of experience is worth the £1500 I need to spend on insurance.

Just ran a quote myself, it's £250 more than I'm paying for that one. Try the pre-facelift petrol model.

Excuse me. Folded arms My shed queen is immaculately presented. You'd struggle to find any dirt on it. It's only done 700 miles.

I think Londonistan address is your problem, I got a 300 quid rebate from my insurer when I moved from Romford to Somerset.
You must have rellies living somewhere less notorious for scrotes.

I've always been unsure on just how dodgy/illegal it is to lie about your address?

For about £1700... it probably is worth it for winter... thoughts?

Should go ok, our car is a 1.6i hatchback and it goes well enough. Spares everywhere for them, fuel costs reasonable
and no turbo, DPF or DMF to bork and cost you a limb or two. Why not. Aftermarket silencer suggests modded/thrashed.
Check all the fluids etc, common faults here...

Try an Astra 1.6. Pre 2004 and you should be able to get the car and insurance for less than £2k

Out of curiosity I did a quote for a 2004 MX5. As a 51y/o Londoner with over thirty years driving, married, home owner, clean licence etc.. £450 was the cheapest. That's more than I pay for my 4 litre 2 ton 210bhp Ford Explorer.
