Chain lube and socks look ok. But the rest is a bit dear for Aldi stuff.

£90 / £70 for CE2 abrasion self-certified jacket / trousers is pretty good. You'll struggle to find any CE2 abrasion kit out there - it's usually just the armour inserts that are CE impact self-certified.

Likewise, the £50 jeans are CE1 abrasion self-certified. You need to go to over twice that price to get a branded equivalent.

I stress "self-certified" because I've yet to find a way to verify any of these claims.

Jacket looks well designed in the form of the waterproof zips on the front including the cover bit for the zip to go into further increasing waterproofness.

Chain related products are half the size of normal ones and I go through them fast enough. Wouldn't use WD40 chain lube again, once supply runs out, because just washes of like no ones business in the rain. Silkolene for me.

Tank bag looks cheap enough to take a chance on.

I've already got a collection of everything so won't be attending the annual fight. Sad

I'm going to order a load of the chain cleaner and wax online, free delivery and no having to fight my way round the shop.
I use both anyway and it works out at £5.98 per 400ml which is about half the price of anywhere else.

Bikesploitation. No real bargains there... I know the socks are good, as I bought very similar ones from Lidl last year, and I use them a lot. They're called wicking socks, and they keep your feet dry and at a constant temperature. I'm waiting for when Aldi have those 60-litre waterproof duffle bags back. The only place you'll find a good quality non-army surplus oversized waterproof duffle bag in a decent colour. Ideal to bungee cord onto the back of a bike. They were £15 a couple of years ago, but I just missed the boat. They haven't been back since then.

No boots this year Crying or Very sad and (so far at least) there's no orders in for 2018 either Shocked ... But that doesn't mean they definitely wont order any, it might just happen later in the year.

Edit: Just checked and they sold so badly that theyve decided not to stock them again.

The merino mid-layers are good and have a nice long back. Got some when they were doing them for cycling.

£25 for a 100% merino, medium weight long-sleeve top is an utter bargain. A lightweight t-shirt will normally set you back £45-50.

Hmm, wax and standard lube; identical brand and price. Which is preferable? I never really know.

Have been thinking about getting myself a pair of biking jeans - how do Aldi's stack up to Kevlar? Is "Kevlar" a must-have buzzword?

Kevlar is a trademark. Most "Kevlar" jeans probably aren't.

The important thing is that the Aldi £50 jeans are EN 13595 Level 1 (self) certified. This means that they're actually making a claim that they'll stand up in a slide. The majority of "kevlar" lined jeans make no such claim, particularly at that price point. If you see "CE certified" it almost inevitably only refers to the armour inserts, not to the fabric itself.

Note that the £40 jeans are "aramide" lined. That's the non-brand name for "kevlar" fabric, which is what you're going to get in most generic jeans. But they're not EN 13595, so the £50 ones are likely to be better in a spill, regardless of what's actually used in the construction of them.

tl;dr version - get the £50 ones.

The certification apparently comes from SATRA I'm sure if you contacted someone of importance at Aldi they'd be able to forward on the lab report proving their claim...you'd hope.

Edit: Just fired off an enquiry through their contact form, I shall wait with baited breath before they tell me to sod off and mind my own business.

I would have been tempted to try the certified jeans but they are only available for the more 'cuddly' sized gentleman with the looks of it. 34, 36, 38, nothing below 34 waist.

If my Hornees are anything to go by they will come up big as well.
Mine say they are a 32. I'm more like a 36
at the mo and they fit fine.

Laughing I checked out their jeans a while ago and they're indeed massive. There does seem to be a gap in the market for skinny guys, my K Jeans in the smallest size they do (32/31) are a bit big.
