Yep seen that.

I was asking for the evidence in the form of the report which will have been issued by SATRA, I could write any old bollocks on a web page doesn't make it true.

Considering the very small amount of properly certified trousers and the costs of the ones that are usually available I'm just a little suspicious that's all.

No worries, if it says that on there - then that's what ALDI are told by Crane. You would be best asking Crane for the testing certificates, ALDI won't give a shit. Anyone comes off and it looks suspect - crane would be for the chop. 👍

That's the name on most of their stuff, but I won't say they manufacture it.

Yes it's the brand name on most of their sports/clothing stuff. I think it's owned by a German outfit called www.royalbeach.de; I don't know what the relationship with Aldi is (they are also German, of course).

What I can say is that I once had an Aldi rowing machine (a Crane one, natch) and it came with Aldi's excellent 3-year warranty. Something major went wrong with it just before the deadline, and I ended up dealing with this RoyalBeach in Germany - a fair bit of hassle to track down IIRC, but they were fine, and fixed it FOC

For what it's worth, I found this product review of the Aldi £30 jeans versus posh Hood K7 jeans:
https://www.morebikes.co.uk/16621/the-motorcycle-jeans-destruction-test/

(it does say at the bottom that these are from an old Aldi range not CE certified)

FYI just been on to the Aldi site and a lot of the gear is now sold out online...

I bought some socks and base layers a few years back but I wouldn't bother with anything else tbh.
Not saying it isn't good value but I'd rather not save money in this department, despite all the 'tests' and 'certification'.

You'd rather pay more for gear that claims less protection?

That does not mean its any good. Wont be half as good as cheap leathers.

I doubt that is anywhere near my definition of waterproof.

What are the jeans fit like? I have 32 waist but massive quads/thigh so normal jeans do not fit. They all seem to be for skinny girly legs.

Which cheap leathers (£160 for a full set) claim CE 13595 level 2 abrasion protection?

The issue is the old jeans didn't claim any certification. They just had Kevlar patches on the knees and arse so can't really be compared

This £50 are claiming a certification, it atleast makes me think k they are constructed differently. As in fully lined, or reinforced denim.

Yes. Will find out for you Monday. It's usually yearly though, so probably Jan/feb 2018.

Level2 is 7 seconds in very specific areas. The rest of the garment will be shit.

Have you not read the jackets description?

"Crane® Motorcycle jacket and trousers fulfill the high requirements for impact abrasion and impact cut resistance, demanded by the EN13595-1:2002 standard for zones 1 & 2, in ALL zones. This means the garments exceeded 13 seconds of abrasion resistance across ALL zones of the garments in controlled laboratory tests."

My point is that the standard is shit, there is a reason they dont waste money on it for leathers. I have owned textiles and frequently ride in jeans. Not all are shit, just the great majority. I need to buy some new ones, I shall not give a single shit if it is ce stamped.

Is the reason that buyers prefer to go with their gut feeling rather than any sort of objective testing?

I'd rather buy top end gear. Get good gear = last much longer than anything else.
