A friend of mine rides a trike (health issues). It's a tiddler on a B2 (I think) on a CBT. If they do get rid of perpetual L's, what, license would he have to take, if he isn't grandfathered in? It's based on a Robin engine, and doesn't meet the power requirements for full A, and I don't know if those requirements actually apply to trikes? He can't take a test on a training school bike as he can't physically ride one.

If he cant ride a solo, then he cant get a bike licence..

I don't think that trike codes are automatcally awarded for a car licence any more, only by grandad rights for old car licences, or only for a full bike test, you cant take on a trike, UNLESS you have registered dssablity.

And even then!?! trike codes are weird! Catagrsed by weight, and a Relant one I would suspect is probably over the light trike weight limit, begging a car licence anyway...

Have you asked on 100% Triker? Sorry BIKER.... that seems to be where most three wheeled perversion know-how hangs out.

I believe that there are specific provisions for disabled people and trikes, may be worth checking. I have made the assumption that your friend is disabled, sorry if I got that wrong.

Yeah, blue badge. It was more what license does he go for. He's fine with taking a test if he needs to, he just doesn't know which one to get.

Cheers for the link, that gives us the current state of play, but it's more what may change. I suspect he'll be grandfathered in, but it's licensing rules, anything could happen.

How very true Sad

My only thought on this is to simply suggest if possible he gets it done as soon as reasonably practical / possible before they "do" decide to shuffle the rules about again.

Leaving 'as is' what with sods law being what it is, its bound to happen. Wish I'd sorted my stuff out "back then" too. Oh well. Smile

Even now he can't get a straight answer, hence he's not done it yet. Unsurprisingly, the DVLA are less than helpful.

Yes, you. You're a liar. What are you going to do about it, liar?
