Hi all, I have a 1984 Honda CB125RS (single cylinder) and I can't get a spark.

The bike was starting and idling perfectly before this issue, then when I went to kick start her, nothing, not a spark.

I've since replaced with a new coil, stator, spark plug and ignition but nothing.

I assume i'm supposed to have 12v coming from the stator wire going to the points and coil? I'm not getting that. I'm at a loss of where the problem can be, any ideas?

The battery has 12v. When I turn the ignition on, the neutral light lights up and the indicators and horn work.

Thanks for any help guys and gals. Cheers, Michael.

Have you checked the kill switch?
Have you checked for a spark with the plug cap removed using the h.t. lead?
With the ignition on and points closed do you get a spark when opening the points slightly?
I cannot find a wiring diagram for your 12volt bike.

Hi Jaffa,

Theres no kill switch on this bike.

If there's no power to the coil, then I wouldn't get one at the ht lead.

No spark at the points, again, no power getting to them.
Thanks, Michael.

It`s an old one and yes you need voltage from that stator coil b/w when kick starting.

If there's no voltage coming from the stator, what else could it be? I've changed the stator and still have no voltage there.

Thanks again, Michael.

A long shot, try and disconnect the other coil output to the lights and r/r and try again for an output using a multimeter.

You'll find out...

I once had a CB100 which ended up getting a cg125 engine fitted, and I do remember that unlike the cg which powered the coil directly off the mag, the cb100 coil was powered from the battery. Flat battery - no spark.
