Strimmeristas, a question

I just got a 25cc strimmer off the local Freecycle
It appears to have a strimmer head only with no ability to have a
brush cutter blade fitted.
Hmmm
I grabbed it as we have some gothic fairytale brambles restricting the lane to where our workshop is
and I hoped it could be used to clear them so I can get a car down the lane
So
Pass it on and get hold of a proper brush cutter or would it hack them down anyway
albeit slower then a blade ?

TIA

I don't know about having a brush cutter blade installed, as I've only used the plastic-string style of strimmer, but I can vouch for them in terms of chopping through brambles, during my brief spell of living in bucolic East Kent, my string strimmer performed admirably on both economy-sized nettles and bramble.

Mind you, I am from the city, and easily impressed by farm implements.

Hire a more manly tool for the day (or three) and hack away to your heart's content.

Some long handled snippers would be better, the strimmer would deal with the new growth that will spring up after pruning back.

Strimmer cord won't last 5 minutes against brambles. You'll spend more time adjusting to get more cord out than cutting.

Fit steel wire in the strimmer head. Thumbs Up (don't)

Try to get hold of some thicker cord? 3-4mm should do.

Thanks for the replies
Brush cutter hire is £80 a day
Sod that, I could buy a new one for less than that

I'm tempted to sneak down there one night with a can of petrol
and let the 'local yoofs' take the credit while I tut tut and shake head
disapprovingly Whistle

For now I'll try the thicker filament and maybe get the young un to go all

You need a brush cutter blade as plastic cord will never win against evil gigantic brambles of death.

Sounds like you also need a more manly strimmer to go with it so get looking on eBay / gumtree / local facebook groups. Thumbs Up

Buy the right tool (brush cutter) - do the job and then sell it. It'll be cheaper than renting one.

Brush cutter is the way to go. I have one, it's fantastic.

They're only £20 (+VAT) to hire.
