PostPosted: 09:30 - 27 Mar 2017    Post subject: Some nugget hit my car, advice? Reply with quote

Morning..

Today someone decided to change lanes into my car. I had nowhere to go so hopefully clear cut however some advice as to what I should do.

This driver didn't stop, I did pull over to hard shoulder and flashed, but he carried on. Had he stopped, I'd be mindful that its a 200 quid car and its not mint, a sorry would have been fine.

However he drove off giving the typical wanker sign and to be fair...probably knew he was in the wrong.

I'm always of the mindset that things can get sorted with a quick chat, but if you don't wanna hang and chat and want to go full bore ranting, i'll put the heaviest weight I can into getting you fucked up. Laughing

So basically...

At the first roundabout, this guy evidently wanted to skip the queue of traffic and jumped in right in front of me. Not too much of an issue as I left him enough room, still bit of a dick move but he got in any should have been more than happy.

Then, after merging onto the motorway I went from inside to middle lane, slow moving lorry ahead and big enough gap for me. As I went to go past this nugget, he starts moving out. I can't go forwards, I can'ty move right and stopping isn't going to happen. His mirror was probably level to rear passenger door as I didn't see him until I heard the bang. He could have seen me easily from that angle. Rolling Eyes He kept coming and made more contact.

Red is him, yellow is me. Green is other traffic, pink is him moving, blue is me moving, purple is impact. Unsure how I could have avoided that at all...

https://s16.postimg.org/m0avod339/Second_Part.png

Main query, what do? Damage isn't bad, but at the same time he is an utter ball stain for not stopping. I have his reg and know he is oriental, so that is all I have to go on.

What do? Woop woop, that's the sound of da police. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't necessarily expect them to do anything but meh, if you don't report it then you can be 100% sure that they won't do anything.

As much as it pains me to say it, short of finding out his address and going round to remodel his car with a baseball bat legally there is fuck all you can do.

No proof it was him, he isn't going to admit it. Police will only become interested when you turn up with said baseball bat.

I suppose reporting him to the police for leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging insurance? Is that an offence?

Sorry mate, don't think you are going to get any joy out of this one. Thumbs Down

There are a couple of offences under S170 RTA 1988 that cover his actions.

Technically as no details were exchanged at the time you also have a responsibility to report it so go and see the police ASAP. Don't wait, Seems unlikely but he may have decided to report it at a police station so keep yourself right.

It maybe depends how your local police force operates however in Scotland every reported RTC is properly investigated and charges will be libelled if sufficient evidence exists. They should require the keeper to identify the driver at the time of the incident in the same was as they would a speeding offence, etc. (S172 RTA 1988) however having another witness would certainly be helpful.

Slanderous.

Doxxed him yet? https://askmid.com/ & https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

No witnesses + devious foreigner = never happened, plus you hit him and crippled his seven cousins, and it never happened, and you is raciss.

MIB untraced (or uninsured) driver compo has a £300 excess.

Chances are that he's come off worse, right? I wonder how pleased he'll be with himself when he sees the state of his car.

Perhaps he uses that road daily?

How about wait for him tomorrow morning and show him how to do the job properly? Total both cars then walk off? (Report stolen asap afterwards)..

Thinking

No MOT due to 15 plate.

Definitely likely to have come off worse, however I'm more pissed he didn't stop.

I am tempted to see if he is there tomorrow... but I'll take the bike. Mirrors for Justice etc.

Scenario 1:
You report it, the police are too busy to care to investigate, but you get a handy crime number. Your insurance company sympathises and you either get it fixed as a non fault claim, or you dont as you might be 3rd party. The next few years the insurance company will claw back the monies they gave you (or didn't) by increasing your premium. This will also allow the insurance company you use for your bike to grab some extra pounds, as the claim will also affect their renewal price. Yes motorcycle insurers will look as your car claim and treat that as their right to take a bit from you.

Scenario 2:
You say nothing and live a fruitful life.

My wife had similar recently, company car was hit by a guy in a van who drove off. She reported it to the local police station, explained it happened in a car park covered by CCTV and there were a few witnesses. Plod did nothing except send a letter saying they were not pursuing it. Total waste of time.

My history with insurance is extensive. I loathe to deal with them but I've never had an increase in policy price. I will always fight to get it cheaper Wink

You see I would report it because I wouldn't want the guy getting away with it. At the very minimum I would want to cause him some aggravation and the worry that charges may be brought against him and a claim may go against him.

I accept the police might do nothing. I accept it might put the premiums up next year. I'd still report it.

The thought of some fella causing an accident and getting away with it. Boils my p*ss!

My only concern given your circumstances would be if he reported the accident first and it goes against you?

or he reports and police come after you because you didn't report it?

Unfortunately in the he said/she said world often the person who gets there first looks like the victim.

Indeed, no doubt he has bawwwwd to police before me. Laughing Welcome to send a letter addressed to my cat if they wish, that is where the car is registered, I'd love to see that court letter.

However, no I'll report when home, only because Monday is manic.

Sorry for the scrape on your Pug, but as you said it's non serious damage and is also a great advert as to why in busy 2017 traffic and the roads full of twats who can't drive or don't want to drive properly, that a £200 beater is a great thing to be behind the wheel of!

I can't get new panels for my 1994 car now, and so it will never be used for commuting and probably never in rush-hour etc.

Having a cheap disposable like like my old Suzuki alto, is definitely where it's at for daily driving if your a private and not a company car driver.

I can imagine someone with something like 2012 Audi A3 quattro TDI etc, getting really bust up if this happened to thier mint five year old premium ride.

The rear door is dented and the arch is flatter than the other side, its been squished. Doesn't matter too much as 200 quid beater motor, its more the fact le takeaway didnt stop.

My mrs managed to put a similar mark on our 2015 Swift yesterday performing the oh so complicated task of parking
the fucker in a spot she uses all the time. That's the 3rd parking incident needing a body shop in under 12 months. At least
she keeps picking on things like kerbs and bollards and not other peoples motors. Already needed NSR wheel refurbed as she's
tried to grind the face off of it, was waiting until I need new tyres before I got that sorted, I'll get the whole lot refurbed while I'm
at it. Now there's this to add to the list of things to un-fuck up. Clowns with tits the lot of em. Folded arms

Same here, I had a Romanian lorry driver roll back into my work van, he refused to give his details, got the police on the phone who got an interpreter (his English was fine Rolling Eyes) to tell him to give his details. He said what accident and drove off.

Police sent a letter saying they weren't pursuing anything due to lack of evidence. Personally I'd report it to the police (even though it's probably a waste of time) but not to your insurers unless the damage bothers you. I doubt he got your reg in his rear view mirror.

Damn, I really like those Swift Sports, and the OEM alloys are a nice design too, certainly too nice to be fucking up with curbs etc.

I'd possibly like to get my hands on one of the last Swift sports, before they bring out the next generation turbo one that'll be dull as hell compared to the mk1/2. In today's traffic and for a sensible nippy car the Swift would be far more useful and engaging than an oriental heavy hitter like the new Honda CTR, and far better VFM too.

I'll have to see if I see any sense and get rid of my old 4wheel shite and thus get my garage back in the process?
