Mum's just got a NIP through for going 48 in a 40, caught by a van camping about 5 metres from an NSL zone, despite me screaming "CAMERA" and her not slowing down, but we won't go into that.

It says on the letter that she will get 3 points, but mum says that they haven't set a fine amount yet, does anyone have any idea what the fine will be, I know it used to be £30, but has it gone up to £60? Can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

As far as I know it will be £60.

It was last year when they got me for doing 52mph in a 40mph zone.

No, but I'm due to. My last 3 points come off my licence on the 22nd September, and I've always had 3 for the last 15 years. Last time I had a clean licence was 2 years after I passed Smile

As things stand, if she accepts the conditional offer she's looking at 3 points and 60 quid.

Nope, but I saved a few people tonight - the cops set up a speed trap
about 100 meters from my house (hiding behind a bush obviously) so i
also hid behind a bush and signalled to every car and bike to slow down..... It took the plonkers about 40 mins to realise what was going on Laughing and come looking for me..... but dont worry I ran into my house and hid like a girl Thumbs Up

Whate were these "unfair circumstances"?

I am interested as if you are going over the speed limit there is nothing "unfair" about it? Confused

It's a road coming into Sheffield after the Snake Pass. It's clearly marked as forty for a good distance (many signs), despite being built up and with streetlights. There's a single sign marking the change to thirty and then nothing for a good half a mile to a mile (I did the run again tonight, and was paying more attention). Then the camera. My lady said "Tom! Camera!", I said "I'm doing forty". Flash, flash bastard Crying or Very sad
I know I was in the wrong and got done fair D, but if there'd been half as many thirty signs (as oppose to one on a road that had been forty for a mile or so) as there were forty (and possibly a change in the road conditions) I'd have cottoned on swifter Thumbs Down
Ordinarily Somerset I'd agree with you, too fast, busted, fair enough. But in this case, I'm really annoyed. It makes me wonder if the people shouting "Speed cameras=revenue" aren't right Evil or Very Mad and i've never thought that before.

But surely you're meant to cotton onto the road signs when you see the first one, wouldn't try that excuse with police etc as it could end up pissing them off more which will mean they'll be as harsh as they can do!

Mate, I'm not going to try that as an excuse Wink Very Happy I was busted fair and square and if it comes I'll accept it, yet I'll still feel a little hard done by Smile Simple fact, I didn't see the single road sign. I saw the multiple ones stating forty, and missed the change. Happens. Annoys me more as I wasn't intentionally speeding Very Happy

Ouch. According to my research (net based admittedly) it goes like this;
up to 36 - nothing
36-49 fixed penalty
50+ summons Crying or Very sad

They are actually not allowed to put up repeater signs in 30 limits where there is regular street lighting, and the lighting shows that it is a 30 limit (and hence why plenty of 20 speed limits are probably not legally enforceable as the lighting and lack of repeaters means they are 30 limits).

All the best

Good luck from what I know from friends caught speeding (I've not been caught in 13 years of riding/driving so far <touch wood> ) if you're doing double the speed limit, or more than 30mph over it's an automatic 12 month ban unless there's extreme mitigating circumstances.

Of course I could be wrong (and I hope for your sake I am...) as I've not been in the situation yet. I've only been riding a bike for 4 months though so no doubt I soon will heh.

I activate GATSO's all the time. In fact I tend to push the pedal just that bit nearer to the floor when I'm approaching one. Very satisfying. Wouldn't do it without the flashing blue lights though. Wink

I think DD has a maximum ban of 24 months it depends on the blood alcohol level and what you were doing when caught. I don't know anybody who has been caught doing that thankfully so I'm not too sure on that one but that's what I remember hearing.

You could be right about the 6 months, as I said I've not been caught yet so I'm not 100% sure I know it's normally an automatic ban though.

Why?

Just be a man and take the punishment. If you choose to take the piss instead do not be surprised if the law takes you up the ass.
