I'd refuse the random lid because it will be paid for from your settlement.
I presume what you actually want is a like for like replacement for your damaged lid if it's still available and if it's not then you'll have to go and try some on to find something that fits well?
And these are the repair people: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/08697889 |

I think you're misreading me, I'm just reporting what they've said they're going to do, I'm not dismissing any ones advice or anything like that.
My main priority of course is whats best for me, not my insurance company and how big a bill they can rack up. That's why I'm asking for advice
I may well turn the hire bike etc down, Ill have to give them a ring in the morning and raise these points with them and see exactly whats going on. Theres no point having a hire bike racking up daily charges that I cant ride. If they could have one once Im fit to ride that would be great, but if they wont do that then I guess theres little point.
Iv'e got the fazer back home from now, police kindly didn't impound it and a mate wheeled it home. Its in surprisingly not fucked condition. Seems the exhaust acted as a very good crash bung and took almost all the damage. Front & rear fairing is shattered and that's about it. Pissed oil everywhere too, dunno if it starts yet, didn't want to try it.
Iv'e no doubt the insurers will write it off still, though I may well be looking at keeping it and repairing it myself to keep as a second London daily hack bike. |

and he is not the only one....
I would be tending toward the "politely decline - I will get a quote from an accredited dealer thank you - not letting the bike out of my site and don't want your helmet. If you want to send your assessor her that will be fine with an appointment" ____________________ Old fart

and i'd agree, don't let them take the bike if you can get their assessor to come to you instead. Since it's in your garage it's not accruing any storage fees, as soon as it's with them you can bet they'll start tacking them on. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

They've arranged sounds like it's happening. They don't need the bike (except to rack up storage charges), they can send an assessor out. Going by previous stories on here if you let the bike go it could be laid down in the back of a van, then sold on without your knowledge. You might end up not being able to buy the salvage back, or they might want a silly amount for it, but I wouldn't let it go unless you never want to see the bike again.
Hire bikes are normally meant to be for a month so I don't see them giving you one at a later date. Once you get the cheque for your bike you're meant to give it back.
Unless your name's Arcane don't start the bike after it's lost oil |

They'll be assessing the damage, total cost of parts and working out whether it's an economical repair or not*. What they could be referring to is this: Plantec Assist are the UK's leading motorcycle hire and repair service provider to the insurance and accident management industry.
I'm guessing they mean we won't fix your bike for you, which's what you want.
*£50 on it being a Cat C. |
That makes a bit more sense, theyve emailed me saying "We have cancelled the request to collect your bike and we have asked the Third Parties insurance to do a home inspection of your vehicle." so Im guessing TP insurers will turn up, go "its fucked mate" and offer me a tenner and half a pack of polos for it, which I clearly reject then get my own estimate from a garage? Or something along those lines?
Damage so far looks entirely cosmetic, but expensive cosmetic so no doubt itll be a cat C. Which it already was, which I didnt know when I bought it until the V5 turned up saying this vehicle has previously been written off. Ideally I want to keep it and get it back on the road. |

That's a question for them and for the ambulance chasers instructing them.
[UPDATE] Ah, good news. Definitely get the 3rd party insurers involved.
Please be clear that nobody involved is the least bit interested in helping you out. They're just in it to gouge as much as they can for themselves by billing for 'services', or to try and dodge being gouged.
I agree with the general gist so far. Retain your bike; hassle anyone who's meant to be 'representing' you early and often; and consider sodding them off ASAP in favour of a firm of your choice, or handle the claim yourself by contacting the driver's insurance directly.
You shouldn't have to, but your claim is just a tiny one of thousands crossing people's desktops and the only person who really cares about your welfare is you. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Dumb question, but will they know? And surely it shouldn't matter, if the previous owner had restored it to an as new condition? I bought it from a dealership who didnt mention it, wasnt until I got the v5 and did the autotrader trick that I found out. |

Huh, I think that is new, and about bloody time too.
Tierbirdy, can you do us a favour? If you check on https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ does it show your bike as written off? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
