Ignore it and stop seeding torrents as soon as they are downloaded.

I've used hotspot shield for years (as it's free). Accidentally left it on when torrenting something the other day and it was downloading at decent speeds.

OK, thanks CaNsA, to be fair I always let them seed overnight I usually start the torrent before bed and stop seeding in the morning, thanks for the advice though. Will stop seeding as soon as it's downloaded. Cheers Thumbs Up

Look in the settings and change the seeding settings to stop seeding at ratio 0.01 and time 1 minute

should be fine Thumbs Up

So say, for example, that I wanted a VPN from my router, not from a specific device on my network. (Perhaps because I might have been using Doki or some other spelling from a FierStalk and I don't think you can put a VPN on it directly.) What would you think I should look at?

Far as I'm aware it doesn't affect streaming: https://torrentfreak.com/piracy-notices-there-shouldnt-be-many-uk-torrent-users-left-to-warn-170115/

That's because streaming is still legal.

I have gone over this a number of times.

I got a similar email from Sky last week, for Warcraft. I normally kill the seed as soon as the download's complete, but I'd kicked the download off and closed my laptop before it finished. When I opened it the next day, I'd forgotten I'd kicked it off, so it had been seeding a couple of hours before I found it again.

Meh.

+1. Decent provider and fairly low cost. Many routers will allow you to connect them to a VPN. It's unlikely your ISP's router will but anything running DD-WRT will have that ability as will many others.

Could just switch to an ISP that's small enough to either not be able to find out or not really care what you download.

I'm with Utility Warehouse and use my landline almost exclusively for torrents and haven't had a naughty boy letter.

It's interesting how it was Sky and Plusnet who were passing peoples details onto a law firm a few years back.

Plusnet were on their own back then IIRC. I just find it curious that it's Sky again sending out letters* (I know others have signed up to the scheme).

AFAIK they have to do it pro actively.

I'd like to know what happens if you rename something perfectly legal to KONG: SKULL ISLAND (2017).rar and then seeded it, if they would see it as dodgy, or they use hash checking on known pirated material.
It would blow the whole legality of what they could do, if they recognised it as illegal.

That's part of the problem. Unless they download what you are seeding there's no way for them to know, they aren't been intelligent about it it's just "That file is called Ding Dong 2017" so it's a pirate copy.

It's bullshit. Being the bill payer doesn't make you guilty. It's up to them to prove it was you. Although, bear in mind this is how the Met deal with casual piracy;

Nord VPN are very good, been using them for a couple years.

I don't use Torrents, so never had this issue.
