Well lubricating it would have helped.
Can't really see the sprockets in the picture but no doubt they'll be badly worn.

Best course of action?

Well tighten it to what the manufacturer recommends, usually it's between 20-30mm. You'll need to check how slack it is across the chain as well as one part could be tighter due to kinked links.

Have you seen the workshop section? Lubing a chain's fairly important, just like you might have done on your bicycle (don't use bicycle oil or WD40). From your blurry photo(s) the sprocket looks fairly f**ked.

Oh FFS.

This is a result of GB Bikers closing down, The idiots have no where else to go to be spoon fed motorcycle maintenance so they come here. Laughing

Chain tension, really. I don't ever remember it ever being an issue 30 years ago when I started and now we have multiple idiots with chain issues. Has common sense disappeared from the modern youth completely?

Some people don't deserve to have nice things.

Buy a Haynes manual. Or look on YouTube. Or ideally do both. Although I managed to adjust my chain the first time with neither. Very Happy

And post workshop queries in the Workshop forum.

Glue the chain onto the sprockets so it won't come off.

How do people expect others who are new to motorcycles in general to know how to fix basic things like chain adjustment when they haven't done it before?

Yes i have watched the youtube videos and it looks simple enough so i will get started on it in the morning Very Happy

Because, well, it's basic? Every bike with a chain will have it in the owners manual.

Every. Single. Bike. That's how basic it is.

I've never been taught how to tighten a chain. I doubt most on here were shown, it's not hard to figure it out.

The chain is too long, that's all. Effectively reduce the length by tying a knot in it. Two knots if it's an R1.

Because they mention chain adjustment on the cbt, you didn't even know chains needed adjusting.
Reeks of troll.

Owners manual tells you about chain adjustment. I told you in one of your other topics to buy the haynes manual, but like Arcane you'd rather do hundreds of pounds of damage and kill/injure yourself than buy a ~£15 book.

Take off the chain, degrease it carefully and set it aside. You have to degrease it thoroughly before proceeding to the next bit.

Then you want to get some doritos and some milk and put them both into a 1 litre jug and fill about half way.

Take the chain, put it inside the mixture and shake well.

Put the chain back on the bike, drink the milkshake.

.

What he means is its basic and talked about on the CBT so if you had actually listened to the instructor you would know how to adjust a chain.

Oh cmon- noone seriously pays proper attention when it's the first time they've been close to a bike and just want to feel how the thing rides. For me it was just the boring bit of the CBT that you needed go through- payed attention for mod 2 though because the novelty was long gone and it was right at the end of training.

I know... and its why we get knobs like this posting and asking how to do something so basic my 6 year old could possibly do
