If a copper has one of those tiny handheld speed guns would he register a VRN just by pointing it, or do they have to pull you up at the scene?

I may have potentially been cruising at 85 but I was behind cars most of the time so he wouldn't have got my speed, just got me thinking whether they ever send tickets or whether they have to get you at the scene?

Search the road on here:

https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-database.htm

Call me innocent to believe, but it dots the location that at any given time PC Plod with his handheld device could appear.

The one location on my commute route it shows once had one but hasn't in a long time.

Depends when monies for donut vending machine runs low suppose.

Was it actually a plod, or just an enraged local citizen, in a hiviz jacket doing one of those speed surveys in collusion with the local council/plod station?

I got zapped by a police woman with a hand held speed gun yesterday. I'm hoping I got away with it as she smiled at me as I drove past.

You're right to be fair, I saw one that even had all the decals minus "police" on it... I genuinely thought police bikes were parked outside a bunch of apartments daily for whatever reason, that's how believable it was. Obviously the lad was "polite".

Because safety.
