They're saying not.
If that is CGI and wire work, it's nearly as impressive as actually building the real thing.
If it's legit, then it's next level trolling releasing it today.

If...it is real (big if - see what I did there?)
Innovation? Not really.
Potential? Biggest problem I would see is getting enough fuel on board for a flight time measured in minutes, not seconds ____________________ Old fart

I would suggest fuel would be a minor problem here because there's very little chance of this actually getting very far.
The spool up time on these is far to long to give any kind of controlled flight.
Imagine having a 4-10 second delay when you open the throttle on your bike as the engine spools up another 20,000-50,000 rpm (around 100,000-120,000 is usually full chat)?
Now imagine that whilst trying to fly in 3 dimensions coupled with the radical instability of having the thrust strapped to your arms/legs? Very unforgiving I'd have thought and would take weeks/months to master (as has been demonstrated by this chap spending months trying to achieve stable flight).
On fuel, I've seen single turbines put a dent in a 25 litre drum of fuel in minutes whilst playing at mid-high throttle (and that was just putting out 25-30 lb of thrust) multiply that my 6? .
Nice idea, I hope their having fun but that they havn't deluded themselves they will have a marketable 'product' apposed to a 'novelty' item because they won't get far until they re-design the conventional gas turbine to overcome these limitations... Good luck with that |

It most certainly looks like awesome fun and very impressive (considering 50-60lb thrust pushing on each arm could some quite some mischief if it twisted the wrong way).
The real question is... Brave or stupid? Not sure I'd give it a bash given the opportunity... |
